1) Find a piece of soft fabric - I normally use fleece, but this time decided to try some cute pink minky instead. 2) Cut two pieces of fabric so the nap of the pile (if any) flows the same direction and align them right sides together. Start sewing your tongue shapes as a 'u' where the nap flows towards the tip of the tongue. I freehand it but you can use a pattern to make sure the tongue is a smooth curve. Leave the base of the tongue open for turning. 3) Cut out your tongue(s). Flip them right out and brush the seams. 4) Here is a brushed and unbrushed tongue to compare. Fleece doesn't have much of a pile direction but still needs to be brushed to hide the seam. 5) from about 1/4-1/2 inch from the tip of the tongue, sew a line directly in the middle. Sew forward a few stitches, then back over what you've sewn, then forward again all the way to the base of the tongue. If you do not knot the thread like this your line will unravel. cut any excess thread. 6) Sew the base of the tongue shut and you are done! Glue into your head. The tongue will look more natural if you do not just glue it flat, but add a natural curve by making it a little too long for the jaw, and bunching it up a little, so it has a small upwards curve before going down into the throat.
