2023-05-14 01:06:26 +0000 UTCClooney did lip synch to "Man of Constant Sorrow" sung by Dan Tyminski, my favorite male Blue Grass singer. The voices of the sirens were provided by Allison Krauss, Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch. Quite a soundtrack.

2023-05-13 15:47:36 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favorite Coen movies, and I've seen (and enjoyed) just about every one. Clooney is always great in dramatic roles (Michael Clayton, Up in the Air, Syriana) or in roles where he is just meant to look cool (Oceans 11, 12, and 13) but he really shines as a comic actor in Coen movies like this and in Burn After Reading (which also features a great comedic performance from Brad Pitt). Of course John Turturro is a strong presence here as well -- He played bowling ace Jesus in Big Lebowski and starred in Barton Fink. The soundtrack of this movie is one of the more interesting stories -- The movie opened in late 2000, at a time when radio stations were being consolidated around the country by a few big companies who stuck to strict formats. As a result the O Brother soundtrack (which didn't quite fit into existing formats) got practically no airplay outside of tiny independent stations like college radio stations, even as it dominated record sales around the country. It won multiple Grammys, a Country Music Association award for best soundtrack, and dozens of other association awards. Of the main three actors, only Tim Blake Nelson (Delmar) actually sang on the soundtrack.

2023-05-12 15:55:40 +0000 UTCI’m so happy you finally reacted to this movie. It is one of my favorite movies. I have to watch it each time it comes on! Someone mentioned it , but they didn’t do their own singing. However George Clooney had a very famous aunt who was a wonderful singer. You can fine Rosemary Clooney in my favorite Christmas movies White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen. You should watch it with other Christmas movies.

2023-05-12 08:33:47 +0000 UTCGreat choice here guys glad you enjoyed. The Coen brothers have the right touch they make a good picture. I’d recommend Raising Arizona next Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter funny film. I don’t ever want to disrespect anyone’s opinion and you should watch the Coen brothers True Grit BUT…. It is a remake of a truly classic western from the golden age of westerns and the greatest cowboy star in pictures. I’m talking about True Grit from 1969 with John Wayne, Glen Campbell (yes the singer but not a musical) and Kim Darby. John Wayne won his only best actor Oscar for True. Watch both they’re both good but doing yourself a disservice if you watch the remake first. Another classic western is The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance with John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. Modern westerns are great but they really don’t make them like the golden age of westerns so please try some of those. Feel better Jay!

2023-05-12 03:40:28 +0000 UTCThis is great! The movie and music are just fun. The actors didn't sing the songs, professionals did, but I thought the integration of the singing and the actors was really good. The blind radio manager is Stephen Root, Milton from Office Space, and Bill from King of the Hill. When they took Stokes out of the building on a log, that is a custom from long ago as a way of shaming someone in the community. It's called Riding a Rail. Holly Hunter who plays his wife is the main co-star in Raising Arizona, another Coen Brothers' movie. I hope you watch it. After you enjoying O'Brother, I'm more convinced that you will like Raising Arizona.

2023-05-11 20:16:43 +0000 UTCYou’re on a Coen Brothers roll. “True Grit” (a western) and “No Country For Old Men” (neo-western) are Coen must sees.
