Thermal Prints

This one in particular (The Mitsubishi P50) is a black and white thermal printer that prints in very much the same way as a reciept is printed. The thermal paper that is used has a chemical coating that turns black when heat is applied.
The nature of thermal prints, like receipts means that they fade over time (especially in exposure to heat, UV, pressure and friction) I think this make an interesting medium to create art on as the piece has a life span of its own. And theoretically, the better you take care of it, the longer it will live.
I create these stills by making an optical feedback loop with a camera and a 9" B/W CRT monitor, when I find something I like, I hit "print" on the machine and it captures a frame.
This is what you get every 3 months if you pledge my highest tier: one print, card backed with a digital scan sent to you. This may change in the future to colour video prints, or VHS tapes, but for now i think this is a nice unique piece or art to offer my patrons!
