Not the happiest interaction but the memory of it drives Sette to keep trying to grow into something that'll make Da happy, so he'll never think about doing this again.

No doubt Nary is a piece of work but he's always really interested me. There is something in him that pushes back so hard against what he was born into. He doesn't necessarily want to take this brat to better places alongside him, but he does see her struggle and her suffering. That's the part of her that he recognises as familiar; as family. And if she's his, she'll make her way.

Thinking 'bout it again and I guess that's all Ana is too really, but Ana's much more fantastical and this is much more common, so she's easier to stomach and sympathize with for me. Plus I'm a bit of a misandrist when it comes to subject matters like this.... sorry, dudes :p

Poor Setty :( Disappointed but maybe not surprised at the amount of comments sympathizing with Nary. Spousal murder, getting drunk, strangulation... it really is textbook abuse patterns. The fact that Nary cares about Sette isn't special or redemptive. And all the other excuses- if he wasn't drunk, if he had had better emotional development as a kid, etc etc. Lots of people have shit lives, but not all of them strangle their daughter. I hope Sette is one day able to grow past this and see it for what it was- a sad, angry man taking his sadness and anger out on the people within his control.

Spending your entire life thinking of a person one way based on their actions in a specific incident only to ultimately realize that you're more like him than you'd ever care to admit is an unwelcome level of personal growth for a man like Nary. Especially in a society that values introspection and empathy as little as Sharteshane does; his own family would be lining up around the block to shank him for this if they knew how "sentimental" he was.
