Still about ten hours to go, and--Wait, this is the comic announcement. It's done? HOW?!

Commentary

Unfortunately for Minion, I was watching an anime one day when I heard "something-something-neko", and the subtitles read "homewrecker." I knew "neko" meant cat, so I wanted to find out if they actually were being called a cat.

I looked it up, and apparently, yes, yes they were. Now I'm curious if anyone's gotten really confused listening to English dialogue about "cat burglars" (or possibly assuming it's an intentional pun given how Catwoman in Batman and Black Cat in Spider-Man are sometimes depicted).

Having just watched Batman: Year One yesterday, obviously I thought of a cat burgler as well. But on seco

I first heard it first in Too Many Losing Heroines.

Funnily enough, I just encountered a character saying “dorobōneko” in an anime (it came out shortly before this comic, but I watched it after), only the subtitles said “thieving kitty”. I would not have understood that line if it hadn’t been for this comic. (if anyone’s curious, it was “The Do-Over Damsel Conquers The Dragon Emperor” - it’s only got two episodes so far, so I don’t know yet if I should recommend it or not)

i like how Minion facepalms to the cheeks instead of (almost nonexistent) forehead

That is awesome. ^.^;; I look forward to the Cat Burglar Villainess.

It makes a sort of sense, cats are generally considered somewhat demonic in Japanese folklore, even more so than in much of European. And a lot of the worship for vermin-catcher and food protector goes to foxes instead.
