Commentary
I didn't go with "the device" for the first two panels just to build suspense. I also knew I'd spend approximately ten thousand years sketching and resketching the outfit, and experimenting with the shading.
This proved wise.
I was inspired to play with asymmetry by calico cats, so when I do draw this villainess form in color, expect orange.

My grandmother had two cookie jars that sat at opposite ends of a long dark oak buffet: one was a black and white dog wearing blue gingham bib overalls, and the other was a calico cat wearing a pink-striped pinafore. They were adorable. :) So's this. :)
