Does Israel have the right to defend itself?

Hello Patreon,

This video aims to provide what I believe to be the only reasonable answer to the question of whether "Israel has the right to defend itself." It may surprise some of you to hear that my answer is more complicated than simply saying "No." More complicated even than saying "No and fuck you for asking!"

I have invoked the previously set precedent to make this video available early for everyone, as the subject is too important to let sit, and I've spent too much time on it already.

I have attempted to maintain a flippant tone throughout this video, simply to make it watchable. I agonized over this choice, I had previously even included a content warning explaining why I felt it was appropriate to make jokes about such a serious situation. I was worried people might think I was being glib, that I was making the whole thing into a joke.

But then! Then I read Contrapoint's tonedeaf, unprompted statement on her thoughts about Gaza, where she said something along the lines of (forgive me I'm not gonna go look it up, or I'll waste an hour of my life finding more and more of it to get mad about) "You can't make edutainment content out of such a serious situation" and I thought to myself "Wait... Maybe you can't, but I can! I'm doing that right now." I immediately opened Premiere and deleted the section of the video apologizing for that fact.

You know when comedians say that comedy is this magical thing that lets people speak truth to power, and then they use that magical thing to complain that some minority group annoyed them, and we all roll our eyes at them? Well I actually do take the responsibility to use jokes to educate and uplift seriously, and frankly this subject is too serious NOT to joke about.

I understand why that might be off-putting to some folks who are more affected by these tragedies than I am, and I don't blame you if you don't wanna watch me do it, but it is my responsibility none the less. I'll catch you next time with some bullshit about Superman or M&Ms or something, no worries.
