Recommendations: Godzilla Minus One
Added 2024-06-24 22:43:42 +0000 UTCI'd previously seen two Godzilla films...
The first being Final Wars, something I've always described to people as the Resident Evil 6 of movies. It might be the film that made me stop making Michael Bay jokes, because it makes The Rock look like a documentary by comparison, as easily one of the most exhausting films I've ever seen.
The other was Godzilla X Kong, which I actually enjoyed more than I expected. It's slop, but decently executed slop. I didn't regret having seen it, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Obviously that's different with Minus One.
This is a film I'd genuinely recommend to anybody. Because whether you're into monster movies, period pieces, character studies, pulp thrillers, or just a straight drama, Minus One has satisfies all of these things, and in a way that makes it completely seamless.

You should check out Shin Godzilla! I'd say it has more pacing issues than Minus One and a bit less emotional impact, but it's got some really haunting stuff in it. That ending man....
