"I'm afraid I can only sadly tell you, Professor Schiller, that there's really no clue about mass cultivating edible plants. Everything I grow is edible, but the problem is, I doubt anyone would want to risk getting their bones broken by them when harvesting, even for Gotham's farmers, it's a bit too exciting."
"What about the Guard plants you mentioned earlier, Professor Pamela?"
"There is some clue there," Pamela nodded and said. "Bruce and I think there's something wrong with Gotham's rainwater, so we figured out a way to collect some and use it to water the plants for a control experiment."
"After several experiments, we found a suitable ratio. After watering the plants, they produce some crazy factors, but it's not the bad kind of crazy."
"This madness is more like 'exuberant vitality' in the world of Mysticism. You can think of it as a plant stimulant. Plants watered with Gotham rainwater have residues of stimulants in them."
"And if I use the power of All Things Green to activate this madness factor, the plants can have a powerful attack force and can also be used for Guarding."
"But I heard that some of the plants you cultivated can attack people uncontrollably?"
"It's hard to avoid. Anything in this world goes mad will have a strong aggressiveness. But after several iterations, the latest big tree Guard I've created can understand basic commands."
"But it's not perfect, right?"
"Of course, there's a lot of room for improvement. They can only understand very simple commands, like stay there, attack someone, and when to attack people."
"Night Master Jim borrowed the Tree Demon Sergey for Guard duties at the warehouse storing the Magic Stone, right?"
"Yes, the magical realm is chaotic and needs rebuilding, and Night Master Jim is busy. He can't personally guard the Magic Stone, so he borrowed Sergey to help save his energy and handle the freshmen."
"I must say, Miss, it's probably not just the students who are after the Magic Stone, right? I don't mean to doubt your ability, but can an uncontrollable Tree Demon really do a good job of guarding?"
"Don't worry, Professor Schiller, Night Master Jim set the commands for Sergey before he left, making it attack anyone trying to force their way into that room."
"Sorry, the range of 'forcing' is..."
"Of course, it's when someone tries to break down the door without a key. Although I don't think sorcerers can break through that magically fortified door, any similar attack action will provoke Sergey to attack."
"That makes sense, Night Master Jim has considered thoroughly, but I heard that a student barged in there yesterday and unfortunately got injured..."
"It's inevitable. Perhaps he accidentally entered, or maybe he intentionally wanted to break the school rules, but Sergey doesn't care that much, its madness prevents it from distinguishing whether someone is an intruder or just a curious student."
Three students peeking out from the room heard Schiller utter a knowing 'Oh,' then the sound gradually faded as the two walked away.
"Lord, he's trying to trap her!" Barry jumped out, nervously covering his mouth, "Professor Rodriguez seems very interested in knowing the weaknesses of the Tree Demon!"
Harley's eyes shifted slightly, revealing a barely perceptible smile, then said, "If our previous speculation is correct, this could be a trial, then who do you think organized it?"
"I just heard PamelaProfessor mention someone named 'Night Master Jim,'" Little Bruce squinted and said. "Who is he? A sorcerer?"
"He's the acting headmaster of this school and has high prestige in the magical realm, but beyond that, I don't know much," Harley said.
"Then I think we should look for Materials," Little Bruce frowning said, "Especially materials from the Professors we interact with daily, and the truth about what exactly happened in the magical realm before."
"Then we need to go to the library," Barry looked out the window and said, "We have two classes this morning and three in the afternoon, probably no time left, but tomorrow afternoon we have no classes, it's self-study time, I think we can go check it out."
"You're not opposed to us getting involved in this?"
"I'd rather know the truth about this mysterious situation," Barry sighed, "Isn't it just sending students to their deaths on the fourth floor if no one figures out the solution? Is this really what a school should be doing?"
"This has never been just a school."
Harley only said this cryptic remark, then fell silent.
The last class of the evening was Schiller's basic magic theory, and Schiller, still in his wizard robes, entered the classroom, organized his thoughts, and began speaking.
"I know many of you newcomers have too many unrealistic, beautiful illusions about the magical realm, and this class is here to shatter those illusions."
"It saddens us all that you won't hear any magical or fantastical fairy tales in this class. The basic theory of magic involves heavy stories about people and history because humanity's small steps in the world of Mysticism are accompanied by many corpses."
With Schiller's deep, slow voice, the classroom atmosphere continued to sink.
"Basic magic theory is also a very dry subject. You'll have to memorize countless Runes, learn five to six ancient languages that have been lost in ordinary society, and recite almost all religious texts ever appeared in human history, searching for every trace of Mysticism in the sea of history books like a spider's web."
Everyone silently watched the professor at the front, and Schiller's words deepened the already low atmosphere.
"But these pieces of knowledge can't directly translate into your power, and a degree in the magical realm is far less important than in ordinary society; it's not even your foot in the door."
"To truly make use of this knowledge, to turn your scholarship into a sharp sword, you must go deeper, understand these events better than their participants, the great beings like Angels and Demons, to have advantages ordinary people don't."
"But fortunately, you now have this opportunity, and in many previous years, this knowledge was even seen as shameful, sorcerers discarded it like worn-out shoes, only competing in who could waste more borrowed power."
"To avoid repeating mistakes, I must emphasize again the most important rule of all school rules—none of the teachers and students in this school can have any contracts with Angels or Demons, to ensure the purity of teaching, because many controls and manipulations happen unnoticed."
"If you hear any strange voices or evil whispers, please report immediately to your college Director or any Professor, and do not respond, understand?"
All the students nodded vigorously. Since their arrival, all the teachers had been emphasizing how dangerous Angels and Demons are and how they can seduce people, so many students were a bit scared and had no intention of making early contact.
"But one of you has already encountered a power from Heaven." Schiller's words reignited the atmosphere in the room, and suddenly a noisy discussion flooded the room.
"Someone among us has encountered an Angel?" Barry widened his eyes, looking around, while Little Bruce frowned.
"Bruce Wayne!" Schiller shouted the name and then focused his gaze on Bruce, instantly turning all heads towards him.
"I know that through your relationship with Director Wayne, you could access magic early, but do you think mastering the Rune of divine power, getting a glimpse of an Angel's true form, allows you to mock all your peers who haven't experienced this as fools?"
"Or is it really foolish, the actions of exposing oneself to Heaven early on, letting the temptation of Angels appear in your ears for decades, more or less controlled or manipulated by them?"
With a swoosh, a vacuum formed around Bruce, and almost all the new students quickly distanced themselves from him.
This was no joke; previous calamities in the magical realm were caused by many sorcerers losing their minds to Angel and Demon control, leading to civil wars, a version of the truth the students had to accept as real.
"Think you're the chosen one?" Schiller let out a cold laugh, staring at Little Bruce's defiant blue eyes and said, "Every sorcerer who attacked their own kind because they lost their minds to control thought so. In the magical realm, everything you think you master is just a trap designed to lure and manipulate you, and the real fool is the little lamb that falls into it."
Little Bruce clenched his fists, showing such intense anger for the first time, but Schiller just gave him one last look, then walked to the lectern and said, "Class begins!"
After class, the flow of people started diverging from where Little Bruce was standing, forming a noticeable vacuum around him. Little Bruce took a deep breath and looked up at Schiller, who was tidying up at the lectern, and whispered, "Thanks for helping me avoid trouble. Do you really think I like being with these fools?"
With that, he turned to leave, but then he felt someone grab his arm. Barry was behind him, asking, "Where are you going? Weren't we going to the library to check out Materials?"
"Aren't you worried I'm controlled by an Angel?"
"It's because I'm worried that I need to keep an eye on you. I suspect your aggression is influenced by magic power, in case you go crazy, I can immediately go to a Professor."
Little Bruce speechlessly shook off his arm, and Harley followed up, laughing.
"Don't worry, even if you do go crazy, I have a way."
"What do you have..."
Before Barry could finish, he saw Harley pull out a round, bulging object from her textbook bag.
Barry and Bruce both gasped as they saw what Harley held—a smooth, shiny, factory-new—Former Soviet Union F-1 defensive fragmentation grenade.
Haha, it's all matching up!
Just for this vinegar pack of a magic college's dumplings!
