My first language is French so I googled "Uncle Tom" before commenting to check if the meaning I understood from from the context of all the times I heard or read the expression was the actual one. I checked again and we're both right, it depends on context. It might have originally only meant what you said but language evolves. Uncle Tom: 1- a Black man considered to be excessively obedient or servile to white people. 2- a person regarded as betraying their cultural or social allegiance. "he called moderates Uncle Toms"

2023-07-09 22:33:16 +0000 UTCUncle Tom does NOT mean traitor. Uncle Tom was a character in a series of stories. He was an old slave who told stories. He accepted his situation and was not trying to change it. Calling someone an Uncle Tom is an ugly way to tell someone that they should be fighting to change their situation instead of just going along with it.

2023-07-09 21:01:44 +0000 UTCSpike and Dru! Two of my favorite villains. If Spike went after Joyce, Buffy would have been at his back. Not a smart play. In the first scene, Snyder was blaming Buffy for burning down the old science lab from the previous episode. Which is why Buffy told Sheila that it wasn't only one time that she had burned down a school building. Sensing vampires is something Buffy isn't very good at. It's an ability Slayers do have though.

2023-07-09 17:03:25 +0000 UTCUncle Tom means traitor, it's from a novel and is usually used in regard to race or ethnicity. In universe, Spike probably ran because he feared Buffy would quickly recover and kill him if he did not concentrate on her alone. In reality, the episode was over.
