This reminded me that Sarah Michelle Gellar was in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and now I want to rewatch that movie. The Watcher's Council fills the secret organization trope in this show, except their purpose never really makes sense. They operate as if there are hundreds of activated Slayers spread out across the planet, but there's only ever one. That means that they should have time to work on dozens of other projects or at least provide the slayer a more robust support network considering the number of watchers they have employed. But as far as anyone can tell, they do nothing but fiddle their thumbs all day reading books. If they are working on other projects, they never share the fruits of that labor with Buffy. They only ever interact with the slayer to antagonize her.
