Hush was the first episode of Buffy I ever watched and I was completely hooked. It was funny, scary, well-acted, well-scored, and just overall an excellent introduction to the series. Glad you loved it too! For me, Doomed is the Spike Hawaiian shirt and “Percy called me a nerd” episode. 😁

In Reptile Boy Buffy says, "Or what it's like to have to stake vampires while you're having fuzzy feelings towards one." Or meeting Whistler in Becoming Pt 2. Or Doyle visiting Angel in I Will Remember You Buffy is well aware demons are evil but that they are also sentient. Killing them is not something she does thoughtlessly. So not killing Spike make sense to Buffy and maybe Giles, but not to Xander. Buffy didn't choose to be a Slayer. She was chosen. Maybe she would choose to fight evil. But she can't, she has no say in it. She tried to run away in Anne but realized she can't just stand around. And part of Buffy doesn't give herself credit for what she does because of it. She doesn't see herself as noble. Maybe as a bit of a victim.
