Suggestion time!
Added 2023-09-19 23:21:21 +0000 UTCWe would like to do a genre specific poll. What genres/films would you like to see us react to?
Edit: we will be doing some horror, thriller, etc… for Halloween so that will not be on a poll for this go around. There will be separate polls for those.
Comments
Old SciFi, Them! (Campy B movie from the 1950s but still stands the test of time). If you want something edgy, Logan's Run (but you will have to cut out some scenes or show your reactions since it is from the 1960s :) but it is thought-provoking). Original Time Machine 1950s. Forbidden Plant, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Alien Nation, Fantastic Voyage, fun, and the kids can watch and learn about the human body, the modern version is Inner Space.

2023-11-13 07:40:50 +0000 UTCKinda late with this comment but I absolutely agree! Superman is my favorite superhero and Christopher Reeve's portrayal of his is my absolute favorite! He really know how to completely separate Superman from Clark Kent and it's amazing to see the transformation he goes through to show just how distinct those two personas are. Just the music alone gives me chills when I watch his Superman movies. Although not all of them have the best storylines, just Christopher being this absolute beacon of hope is enough to make me rewatch again and again.

2023-10-05 01:24:07 +0000 UTCMy favorite genre is Disaster Movies. My all time favorite movie is The Poseidon Adventure (1972). The seventies had many disaster movies; The Towering Inferno, Earthquake, Airport (1979), Airport 1975, Airport 77, The Concorde-Airport 79, Meteor, The Swarm. Some very good newer ones are Deep Impact, Dante’s Peak, and The Impossible (this has a young Tom Holland giving an amazing performance.) Another genre is Classics. Films like Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, The African Queen, Gone With The Wind, North By Northwest, Rear Window, The Birds (we all need to see Jay react to this), The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Quiet Man, To Sir With Love.

2023-09-21 22:50:04 +0000 UTCI was born and 61. There are two films that were released in the early and mid-60s. To date, by far, two of my favorite films. One it’s based on a novel, written by Harper Lee… "To Kill a Mockingbird", film released in 1962. It won 3 Academy awards. One for best picture, one for best actor and one for best Art Direction. The other one is a movie that was released in 1967. It stars Katherine Hepburn, Sydney Portier and Spencer Tracy. There were a lot of first in making this film back in the day. Since you enjoyed Casablanca. I can’t help to think that you’ll enjoy these two films as well. Especially being educators. It’s a little glimpse of our history.

There were a lot of actors in there that I had no clue would be in it. I knew Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were in it, but I had no clue Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels were also in it. This was a very good movie!

I’ll suggest some genres for y’all: Cult Classics: movies that are lesser-known but loved by those who have seen them Slasher/Thriller: horror movie villains for Halloween Musicals: Movies like Xanadu, The Wiz, Chicago, etc. Throwback Thursday: how about a movie prior to 2000? For example, 80s or 90s movies or even further back? Best Westerns: Classic western films from the past and recent ones. Laugh Out Loud Funny: Slapstick comedies like Airplane, Young Frankenstein, etc. Based on a True Story: movies based on real people and events

2023-09-20 12:50:14 +0000 UTCAs for action... I suggested this a few times... "First Blood". It is the beginning of a 5-movie series starring Sylvester Stallone. He plays an iconic character that I've heard Jay say he's heard the name, but has no idea about it. I think it would be rewarding for him to place a face (Stallone) to the character name. Ssshhhh... don't give it away. The first of the series is a deep dive into a Vietnam vet's struggle with PTSD and an uncaring nation trying to forget. "They drew first blood, not me."

2023-09-20 03:14:27 +0000 UTCArthouse film. The filmmaker David Lynch is the premiere American director in that department. "Eraserhead" was his first film, and arguably most experimental, so it's probably the best place to start (it's where I did), but directors like Lars von Trier, Werner Herzog and Michael Haneke are also great. I doubt this will be the first (or even 2nd or 3rd) genre to win this kind of poll, but it's something you definitely want to get into down the line when you want to really dive into some dense/deep films. If you thought Pulp Fiction was jarring, you'll be in for quite a ride with this kind of filmmaking.

2023-09-20 00:07:25 +0000 UTCI know musicals are difficult because yu have to edit most of the songs to death but I'd like to see you react to these musicals which have heartwarming storylines: * "Mr. Holland's Opus" -- more of a drama with music but also about teaching * "Yesterday" -- great Beatles music, both comedy and drama * "The Wiz" -- based on the Wizard of Oz with a similar storyline but different music and a Black cast. I'm also fond of action and think you'll like these:: • Indiana Jones series in this order: "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Temple of Doom," "Last Crusade," and "Crystal Skull". • "Eagle Eye" • "Avatar" (also a sequel) Animated films -- mostly Pixar/Disney, which you might have already seen because, you know, kid-friendly movies that adults can also enjoy. Some also have qualities of an action movie: • "Encanto" (also a musica) • "Monsters Inc." • "Inside Out" • "The Incredibles" and the sequel • "Mulan" (also a musical plus there's a live action version as well) • "Moana" (also a musical) • "How to Train Your Dragon" (two sequels) • "Brave" • "Tangle" (also a musical)

2023-09-20 00:06:14 +0000 UTCI'm a sucker for sci-fi, so usually good with that. Gattaca -- Blade Runner (Final Cut 2007) -- Arrival Should sci-fi win, I would make one programming suggestion, and save the movie Alien for October and the horror movie poll.

2023-09-19 23:40:58 +0000 UTCThey asked for GENRE. So first list a genre and then list one or two movies from that genre. I also recommend you add the year to your movie of choice. A wide variety of ages here and some movies have the same title whether it's a remake or not. I think when we give them so many titles, it's a challenge to narrow it down.

2023-09-19 23:28:41 +0000 UTCI am still waiting for you to see The Hitmans Bodyguard. I know it's not rated that high, but I really liked it. I think the main reason I want you to see it is that it hits everything you like about movies. Lots of action, a lot of humor, a bit of a love story, and a great cast.

2023-09-19 23:23:22 +0000 UTCMore horror, comedy & Psychological thriller, like Psycho & Silence Of The Lambs were such fun watches with you 2. And more romcom, Jay's been an example of what I say is most common with people & Romcoms, the idea of what a "romcom" is deters, but a good, entertaining & engaging movie is not bound by its subgenre. Plus as much as fall is horror movie season I'd say it's just as much romcom season, movies you cuddle up to watch.
