Dev Diary - Calling all computer surgeons!

If you are someone who knows a lot about computers then please keep reading! The games future relies on it!

As many as you my know I have built a whole new system. Which cost me close to 2000$ this new computer was built from the ground up by me with rendering in mind. I picked the parts out myself and even built it myself. I am not new to computers I have been building and fixing them since I was 12.

Do note how Thrall is holding up my Gfx card with a metal bracket. Needed to do this to prevent my card from sagging from how heavy it is.

This new system I ended up doing something im still unsure about. I went AMD. I got a ryzen 9 3900x I sorta regret it. I have had so many problems and when looking up what the source of those problems are they always come back to AMD. This is the first build I have ever done that is not intel. This is a huge deal for me. I have built countless computers for myself, friends, and family and ive always went with intel.

The problem I have been having is my computer randomly resets. When I mean random I mean RANDOM. It wont do it all for a full day, then do it 3-4 times in a day. Sometimes its hours before it does again, and others mins. This leads it back to why its effecting the future of the game. During the last two weeks my plan was to finish up the update and have it ready by the end of the month, but the resets have gotten bad. To the point where I cant even work on scenes without my computer resetting. I was working on some animations and deicided to scrap those for now till I figure out whats causing my computer to reset.

I am calling out to all computer techs that think they know what the problems is. I have tried everything. All my parts are brand new. My voltage is perfectly fine. I also tested the power with my multi-meter to make sure. I have a 900w powersupply so I know its not a lack of power issue. Right now as im typing this my computer is taken apart out of the case so I can troubleshoot it faster and really track down the issue, and so far I am clueless.

What my plan is right now is to pull together all of the content I have made and release an update. My only problem with this is the update will feel rushed and not complete as in the male story line will abruptly end.

Thank you all for the support and cant wait to get this update out for you all to play. Many new techniques are being used for many of the renders to really increase the quality.

Cool. I'm glad you got that sorted out.

What I ended up doing after a lot of research is finding someone else on Reddit who was having the same issues. Even had the same build as I did. Only thing that differs were the power supply. What they ended up determining is the b550 boards have the same flaw that many of the 570 boards have. And that's they don't know how to power the CPU correctly. Buuut that's only when you set your bios settings to control your cpu with auto settings. What he ended up doing was taking everything off of auto and set them to manual and then slightly overclocked the cpu. I ended up following in his steps and so far it's been 3 days without a reset. I also noticed that many windows event errors have went away. I have no problem overlocking I have great water cooling aswell as more than enough power to maintain it. That and I only overclocked slightly from 3.8 to 3.9 I'm going to wait a week and see what happens. So far everything seems fixed. If I go a week without and resets then I'm going to put everything back into my case and start working on the game again. I've been slowly working on the game already but due to the thought of it might reset I'd hate to get to deep into something just for it to reset. Thanks for your response and help!

Also, I doubt its your PSU and unlikely to be your graphics card....although bad drivers can do weird things.

I'm not a PC tech, but I don't see any other posts on this, and like you I've been building and fixing PCs for years. My current gaming rig has a RTX 2080 in it, so I understand the heavy card issue as well. I know you've stated that you've tried everything. But I'm going to ask anyway as it might help or even spur an idea from someone else. It sounds to me like it's either a CPU or a RAM issue. Have you tried each stick of RAM on its own to eliminate the possibility that it is causing the headache? Also, check your CPU temp. I don't know much about AMD products. I mean I know a little from reading up on them in the past, but I'm an Intel and Nvidia user. I'd hate to think you got a bad processor, but a bad stick of RAM is an easy fix. Again, I know you said you tried everything, but I know I've had a few times when someone pointed out something I was missing when I thought I'd tried everything.
