Yes I am mentioning this ADP aspect whenever I talk about it. This is a very frustrating design intention. Thanks for bringing this to my attention way back.

2025-01-14 20:08:09 +0000 UTCI can’t recall if it was this episode that you mention it, but if the iMessage recipient your messaging does not have Advanced Data Protection (ADP) and are backing up their iMessages (which I believe both are usually how most people operate), then even if you have ADP, the messages with your friends are not end-to-end encrypted. I had to ask Apple support this question awhile back and it required them to escalate until they gave me that answer
