🎶 Radio Stations in Paralives 📻

Andrei here, ready to bring some special music to this post 🎵 Ever tuned in to your favorite radio station and gathered with friends or loved ones to share a moment, letting the music create the perfect atmosphere? Or maybe even slow-danced to a song before sharing your feelings? We wanted to have those kinds of moments for Early Access, coming up on December 8th. Check out last week's post here for more details on our release!
🎥In the video above, you heard eight of our many radio tracks that will be in the game (two per genre). Fun fact: most of these songs were made completely from scratch in under a day each 😶 They might sound a little rough or unmixed 🥹 There were also some behind-the-scenes of how I recorded some of them, which was so fun to do 🥸
Parafolks can interact with radio or speaker items to pick a radio channel to listen to.
Next, we’re gonna talk about each genre that has been added in the game so far and why we chose it 🚀
🌃🎧 Lo-Fi
I can’t even count the number of times I’ve set some Nujabes or Lo-Fi Girl to set the background vibe while doing literally anything. Since Lo-Fi was a big influence on the soundtrack’s blend, this was the first genre that I wanted to do for the radio. Also, because it’s super satisfying to produce 🤭. Looking out through the window while it’s raining really sets the mood when doing these beats. Let’s move on!! 🏃💨
📀📻 Indie Pop
A while ago, during a hackweek, I experimented with making the radio’s music turn into the soundtrack’s music whenever Paras would have a very special moment together. The song I made for that was “Witches”, which we decided to still keep for the radio after all this time. From it, I thought of making an Indie Pop radio station, which was super cool and hard at the same time since Indie Pop is influenced by soooo many styles!!! 😵💫
🎸🤘 Rock
If there’s anything I love in this world besides doing music, it’s watching anime while eating good ramen 🍜 And I have to admit it, I’ve been heavily influenced by all those J-Rock intro tracks. There was no chance I couldn’t make a Paralives radio station for this genre. Funny enough, these were much easier to produce than the other genres since there are fewer layers to record 🔴
🎙️✨ Old Ballads
One day at the office, I was passing by our animator Alice’s desk and saw a little slow-dancing animation she was working on. It immediately inspired me, and I decided to make a radio station specifically for your Paras to be able to slow dance to that music. I just had the image of an old couple putting some “old classics” from the 40s to 60s on their vintage radio and casually starting to dance to it. It’s little moments like that one that make the game for me ♥️
Here’s a little sneak peek of what I saw on Alice’s screen that day at the office vs how slow-dancing ended up looking in-game!
That’s it for today!! If we have the time, we will add more songs of different genres to our radio stations before the early access in 6 months. I have to say, I wish I could’ve shown you more of the songs, but hey, sometimes we have to tease. I’m definitely looking forward to showing you many more another time. Hope you enjoyed today’s post! They all sound amazing, but I think my Paras are gonna be stuck on the Rock and Lo-Fi stations, lol. That "Hero Returns" made me sorely miss the times I used to binge anime for months on end. So far we reached the minimum amount of music we wanted for early access but I'd love to add so many more tracks. This is just broad speculation but it'd be great to reach double or even triple the amount of music we have by end of 2026

Right now the only way to adjust the volume of the radio tracks is to change the "Foley" volume in the audio settings or go on the control panel and change the individual songs' volume. But I agree, it'd be much better if you could simply adjust the volume in the game itself or have a separate volume fader as "Radio Music" in the audio settings. Thanks so much!

Maybe you can add another menu right there with "Turn off" (or is there a general setting for volume for all music in the game?)

Is it very clean and professional? Is this a station that showcases local student orchestras? The biggest obstacle would be recording that many layers unless you want to go synth.

Like if you have a Para with a certain level of interest in music an option might appear on the radio to "Look Up Song Wiki" or "Research Artist" that would give you an excerpt from an interview . By extension, a fake profile could be made for one or two artists on each genre as flavor text and maybe that could extended into other things like "Poster of [BAND]".

When you'll expand the radio eventually, Pop should definitely be the first thing you add, and I'd love a Jazz station as well, I think it really fits with the style of this game. Also, very specifically, I'd like to personally request some Phoebe Bridgers inspired Indie songs 😭 👉👈 And really anything that sounds like from a Life Is Strange soundtrack 🫡

I love the sounds and variations, and I'd love to see how the music evolves over time. One small detail you should consider is changing the intensity of the musical notes based on the music: rock with hard notes, jazz with softer notes, etc. I think it would be a really nice touch, but that's up to you, the developers. By the way, I love the new music. Bye!

2025-07-04 15:15:29 +0000 UTCOh wow, the ballads...🥹 I love all the songs & genres Andrei, but the ballads immediately inspire me to make a cute elderly couple who used to be sweethearts and find each other again in their old age 😭 My ONE burning wish: a talk radio station! I don't care if it uses Parli or English or talk-inspired murmuring (maybe that's easiest)...it could have sounds like the news, weather report, advert jingles, and lots of constant murmuring. CBC Radio 1 girlie here for whom having talk radio on in the background sounds like home 😌

I don't hear that very often and I loved it. I literally gasped when I heard the Old Ballads though. Thank you for all your hard work! It truly makes this game special.

I know this, and yet you keep blowing me away... all the instruments, making songs just like that - AND GOOD ONES! - singing, everything! Really, the songs capture the vibes of their genres so perfectly! When I'm not listening too closely, it could be any of a number of existing songs (and I mean that in the best possible way - they sound familiar because they fit their genres so well). I think I have to claim my favourite as Wings because it sounded like epic video game music 😂 The Old Ballads make me think of Greese or Dirty Dancing... or an old timey movie. Ok, I have to stop gushing or this post will never end. Just... SO. FREAKING. WELL. DONE!!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Like it would be cool if our blue Anime girl or any musician para was a famous artiste. The idea of buying 'merch' for band is really fun to me. Also if some of those 'celebrity' lived or came by the town, it coul make for a nice random event. Or even just be a topic of together card. Imagine the drama of badmouthing the favorite group of your neighbours 🤣

Love "Honeywave", and I argue that it's some sort of new funk 😁 "My Love" definitely captures the golden oldies ballad, and hope we'll hear more swing selections like "Waiting on You" 🎶 Great to hear the progress as you polish this game!

But i love anything from the 60s) And R&B! Which is my favorite so ofc i had to suggest it :] it's also quite a broad category OH! And it'd be cool if there was an "atmospheric" station on the radio too! i listen to stuff like that all the time😅

2025-07-04 14:36:36 +0000 UTCTalking about music made me think about the music skill of the game, and since we got the cooking system recently, do you suppose we could get something kinda like the recipe but for the song and music sheet a para would know? One of my favorite thing to do is to try to play a song I love or try to play a song I know on a new instrument just for the fun of it. But you could also buy sheet or ask someone to teach you, etc... It's been a long time since we go a post on the music skill so I'm kinda curious. I know that skill are kinda my favourite thing in game to thing about and how to exploit them and have them have several use. It's not priority obviously but my mind immediately jump on that idea. Also love the music 🎶 as usual. I really like having some singing and not just instrumental music. I hope we get more variety in the future. Have a nice weekend!

Each song is just so well done, the vocals are lovely, and none feel like they’d annoy me in game. Love how I immediately heard anime intros with the rock ones and then you described that in the post! The Lofi is satisfying as hellllll and the BALLADS omg pls. Is it just me or these songs play with the left/right effects more than the soundtrack songs we've heard before ? Especially lo-fi. The Old Ballads genre is really great, you're going to be our older Paras' Sinatra XD So many babies are going to be concinved on these songs (...haha you didn't think about that when you recorded it, now did you ?). Speaking of which... Oh, Honeywave is the perfect song for, um... how did we say we were calling it in Paralives ? 😏 But the rock songs really are my favorites. Hero Returns is totally that bish XD When I first listened to it, it reminded me of early 2000s Ayumi Hamasaki, so it makes total sense that JRock was your inspiration ! Are you going to have a poll to decide what genres to add next ? It's been a while since the last Parapoll. I'd love some electronic music like EDM, I'm really curious how you'd be able to make it fit with Paralives' cozy vibes, but at the same time, teenagers and young adults like to par-tay ! Some synthpop would also be very pleasing, and I think great for the middle-aged Paras who are nostalgic about their childhood in the 80s !
