Build Mode Clutter & Decor + Showing Some Disabilities-Related Items!

Hey there! Chloe here today to showcase some exciting stuff for our Build Mode. I’ve been working hard creating various items to decorate and clutter your houses so you can bring your builds to life and better represent your Paras through their space. I’ll be showcasing a full house build today, focusing on the game’s new clutter and decor items – we will also discuss disabilities in the game. Today’s post is a big one!

A Word on Disabilities in the Game

Many people have been speculating on our view regarding disabilities in Paralives. As devs, we feel it is important for us to be able to represent as many people as we can with our game. Disabilities are everywhere around us; be it our friends, our families, or even us, devs. Be it visible, or invisible.

There are many things to consider regarding disabilities in the game, especially with gameplay features. It requires a lot of design (for instance, how to tackle pathfinding with Paras with mobility restrictions), research, even consulting, and programming, to get things right.

While we won’t be able to do more complex Live Mode features related to disabilities for the Early Access launch, we thought there must be a way to at least represent our player base living with disabilities in the game. In Animal Crossing, people loved the wheelchair, although it was unusable, you could make your character sit in it and take pictures in it. We figured it was the least we could do – as such, the items we will be showing you all today will most likely not have gameplay uses for the Early Access release. Nevertheless, we hope it will help you better represent your Paras individualities as you decorate your house with items that truly embody them.

While I used some specific disabilities and diagnoses to guide me when creating objects for the game and decorating the following rooms, please note that labels and diagnoses will not be in the game!

House Tour!

On to the house tour! The house I am showing today was created while stress-testing the Build Mode. We want to make sure all severe issues that players will encounter, or issues we will encounter while creating our town, are ironed out before the programmers shift their focus to Live Mode. This house was designed to showcase the different new objects I’ve made these past few months. This isn’t a Townie house!

You can tell an older crowd decorated this space! We have new objects that fit the “chalet” vibe, as well as returning ones, like the deer head and the bullhead from Sebastian’s house. Psst psst: the fish is called Billy.

Quite the cluttered kitchen, wouldn’t you say? I created a lot of kitchen clutter in the last few months. This is a few of them!

We have new tool holders, baskets, and cutting boards! Also, believe it or not, the eggs in that metal basket are recolorable! Just in case you prefer your eggs brown.

We have some recent produce, like the jam jars and honey pot, as well as tins and even a steamer basket! Why the cheese wheel, you say? Yes. Mmmhm. Cheese.

For this room, I’ve imagined a Para that likes pastel colors, likes space, and is autistic, when creating the room. I decided to fill the room with a lot of comfort items, like the different plushies (including the new weighted lizard!).

Stim toys and noise-cancelling headphones are lifesavers when you are getting overwhelmed. We also have a heating pouch, to combat cold winter nights.

This room is visibly geek-coded. Someone who’d live here would have a liking for, huh, Delicious and Dungeon. Right. You got cool displays of skate decks, and LARP gear as well. You can maybe notice the asthma pumps, along with the blood glucose meter and the insulin pump.

This one is quite the colorful one! I imagined a space for someone who’d have an auto-immune disease, and so they always have their trusty oxygen concentrator not too far.

A closer look at the manual wheelchair. Pretty much every aspect of the chair is recolorable, so I’m hoping you will be able to customize it to your liking!

We also have a walker, with recolorable tennis balls (of course)!

In terms of mobility aids, we also have forearm crutches and walking canes!

With someone with mobility restrictions in mind, I created a bathroom large enough to easily fit a wheelchair, with everything at arm’s length (while seated). I added some handles as support to get to the toilet and the shower. They are, however, purely aesthetic and not functional.

Lastly, the more “dated” look is back. We have a white cane (it has a marshmallow tip, for anyone wondering), a book in braille, and a magnifier to see things better!

We have some small hearing aids and a sign language book. There’s also a text phone, which allows people to read what the other person on the other end is saying; nowadays, it’s all possible on cellphones, but the folks struggling with technology tend to still use it.

These bathroom staples are soon to be your bathroom staples!

A full view of the first floor!

And here is the second floor!

The exterior of the house as a little bonus treat! I wanted to have fun (breaking) testing the build tools, and wanted roofs at different heights and levels. (Disclaimer: the little ramp at the front is something I did with our advanced tools, it is not currently an object in the game.)

This concludes today’s extensive showcase! I hope you liked the new objects you may have spotted in the different rooms around the house. Let us know what other items you’d like to see in the game (I’m always looking for inspiration, ahah!)

I love the detail of the pill bottle, and some of the other miscellaneous clutter! Amazing job Paralives team!✨

Valencia Bernal

I really love the no tub shower and shower chair! Even a grab bar??! It's understandable that not all of these items will be functional, but it makes me happy to have them! I do hope in the future though that there will be a way to bring in some disability features in game!

Victoria Garcia

These items make me feel like myself and the disability community finally matter in gaming. The amount of research and understanding in these items is apparent. Thank you!

Jessica Tourtellotte

I know that these items are decor, but I wanted to ask if paras will be able to sit in the wheelchair? I feel like this would be very helpful for storytelling purposes

Leaf

this is so neat because im special needs too i have autisum and i love you guys very much

mollie

thank you so much for all of this! even if it ends up not usable, I'm more than happy just seeing some disability-related items. thank you so much for adding objects and being inclusive. very excited about this! i know i'm going to use these items A LOT

shadowfrost

The rainbow thing? I don't think that's a pill organizer. I think it's one of those rubbery fidget toys with the bubble pieces you can push in and out. I do think I saw something that looks like a pill organizer in the 14th photo on the bathroom shelf but I'm not 100% certain on that. Either way, many pill organizers look different. Mine is circle-shaped myself while many others have the generic long, rectangular shape. Would just love the variety, and a variety of swatches if they could make it work.

Jill

I love every one of these items. Even if the majority never become usable, it means so much to me that they are even included. Noise-cancelling headphones, wheelchairs, and pill organizers are a part of my everyday life, and it's wonderful to see myself represented.

jrrt1459

There is a pill organizer. It's in the sixth photo, on the desk in the pastel-colored room.

jrrt1459

The scale of these homes looks really really good. I imagine my homes are going to be modern with ‘house of leaves’ vibe haha anyone who’s read that book grab a tape measure. 😝

JazzyJay

I agree- a recolorable one would be awesome as I love my rainbow organizer.

Kathleen Cross

This is amazing thank you! I'd love some pill dosset boxes 😍 I love love love love love it!!!!!

Hollie Burton

I'm late to this but if this item wasn't already in the game, a pill organizer as a clutter item would add so much depth to paras.

Jill

...with Elfish Presley on 'bass'?

Mysteri

Not me naming the next track "Billy Eifish"

Andrei Castanon

I look forward to this post becoming public if it ever does I really want to share this with my friends and family because im autistic

Bitsof7

When I was a kid used a ball cane up till high school, then got a chalk tip cane, it wasn’t till going to living skills as an adult a learned about marshmallow tips…. Like theses the best.

Shota Tsunamura

I definitely teared up seeing all these amazing items, I love how inclusive this game feels! I hope these items are able to be used in the future, that would be extremely exciting. Thank you for this

Pedro Lopez

Oh true! I vote for custom screen wallpapers 👀👀 just a thought because when the pc is on but not in-use there could just be an image

Yvette Lopez

I live for build mode clutter, so naturally I love everything 💚

dcknx

I don't know why, but I almost cried seeing those items. This is beautiful, I love it. Thanks so much for putting this effort on the game

Ana Caroline Martins da Silva

😰😂

Mysteri

That's awesome - thanks :)

Jennifer

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Think the whole Paras -> parasols can become a cute community 'inside' joke.

Jean321x .

The character artists will eventually get to create disability items for the PAM, and hearing aids and the likes will most likely be added then :)

Chloé Ouellet

Flashing doorbells were something that we were considering when creating these items; they may be added later on!

Chloé Ouellet

To answer your questions: 1) Spiral staircases are not planned for Early Access release (just getting them to work as regular stairs was quite the challenge since they adjust to room height, ahah). Elevators could possibly included, but that will depend on the city creation. 2) Seasons related gameplay, like temperature change, will be added after the initial Early Access launch, so these details have not been decided by the team :) Also, I love how autocorrect always changes Paras to parasols, ahah

Chloé Ouellet

Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the post!! The handles are horizontal, however, with the advanced transform tool, you can easily rotate them to any direction you need! The crutches are a wall item and come with the holders! Same for the white cane. As for if the items will be usable when in bed, I'd say probably not; these things will be confirmed as the programmers focus on Live mode in the upcoming months, and they will break all my dreams as a builder, ahah. But yeah, I thought it only made sense for things to be easily accessible for Paras that needed it :)

Chloé Ouellet

To answer some of your questions: The character artists will eventually be adding items to the Paramaker, so items like stoma bags or hearing aids would be added then to be worn by characters! :) The rollator would be nice to add as well! As for the canes' colouring, the individual parts are recolourable, and so you can customize it to your liking! I chose these colours because that's what I was used to seeing here, but the option is there so people can get their cane to look how they want it to look!

Chloé Ouellet

we just love cheese

Chloé Ouellet

For the time being, I put the microwave at a lower height than the counter, but only during the team's focus on Live Mode will the programmers maybe shatter my dreams and add restrictions for these sorts of objects! :,)

Chloé Ouellet

You can recolor the eggs however you want, so yes, you could have them be brightly colored! :D

Chloé Ouellet

At the moment the objects showcased are unusable and serve only to decorate and clutter the house, functionalities to some objects may be added during the team's focus on the Live Mode and throughout the development of the game :)

Chloé Ouellet

Ahahah yeah the screen is quite bright currently, it is still a placeholder as we will figure out what we want to have when the team starts their Live Mode focus!

Chloé Ouellet

We do have some gym balls already in the game! :) I believe we see them in our Live Mode Showcase, in the gym!

Chloé Ouellet

He might be...if Andrei indulges us and creates a lil song for Billy eheh

Chloé Ouellet

At the moment I don't think we will have lifts for Early Access since they require some custom functionalities, but it's something that could be nice to have down the line!

Chloé Ouellet

I’ll be honest, I don’t even really care if the disability items are ever made to be useable by Paras, but it’s just the fact that they’re IN the game when so many games don’t even think to include items or characters that have any type of disability. Or if they have a disability, it’s mentioned once or twice, but also, somehow, never affects anything they do, so they might as well just not have it. Like, what good is it to say a character has a hard time walking because they were born with a disability, but then they use a potion or spell to enable them to walk normally all the time? You know what I mean? I get games are spaces for a lot of us to forget about the outside world, but, at least, in a life sim, if you’re making yourself or your friends/family, you want to be as accurate as possible. Or maybe you don’t know anyone with a disability, you might still want to include that in your gameplay to make your towns/worlds more realistic. I can only imagine the stories we can all come up with just with these cool clutter items. Big thanks for being inclusive, especially at a time when that’s being frowned upon.

BooDotBoo .

The clutter items are wonderful! Especially like the kitchen. So much thought went into these items, it shows! Love everything.

Rainlily

Are those tampons/pads in the bathroom? 🤩 I love it and all the rest of the clutter

Lauren R

THE RAMPS!

Sarah

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I actually cried when I saw a way to represent myself with the oxygen concentrator and the wheelchair for my disease, ALS. Even if they never become functional, it made me so happy to finally have ways to represent so many of my loved ones! Thank you very much for including us, too!

DarkFoxGirl13

i love this, it looks amazing!!

Emilio Miriano

I also want to see a rollator. No one here in Germany uses a walker, but a lot of (especially older) people use rollators. My grandma also uses a foldable gripper and a pedal trainer, because of her stiffness. And in case she falls, she uses an emergency wristwatch/necklace too. With stuff like that elderly Paras could still live in their houses instead of moving to a retirement home. :)

TyraStar74

Oh these are excellent and you've tried to accommodate right through from physical to neurological disabilities, I think this is so fantastic! I'm also just wondering if there will be a lift and/or a stair lift to build physically disabled character's rooms on the 2nd floor and above. I saw in the house image it looked like the wheelchair user's room is on the 1st floor and it looked like there was a sloping floor, which is a great idea. Amazing creations! :)

Christina Ozeki

OMGOSH!!!! I can't wait to get my hands on this game! I want to make a whole town, and this post has me thinking doctors office, and hospital. Also, being 62 with arthritis, I see some stuff that I also use.

Sherri Small

You and your team handled making these items the way that I think other game designers should see. Even if they are not functional right now, it does not mean mods or even future updates won't make it possible. I am disabled and come from a disabled household so seeing mobility aids, inhalers, and the stim toy is amazing. I love recreating real storylines in simulation games and something I find important in making it more normalized in our cultures. I don't get much representation in media but with Tourtett's Syndrome I would rather that not be addressed as it is different for everyone, but things like physical disabilities like chronic pain or autoimmune diseases/disorders are so validating for what my life has been.

Hank Plays

looks so good! im so excited for this to come out!!! <3

Plumite

It's part of the handicaps in short I just wanted to ask if they were going to put something other than that and if it would be functional and I don't see how mental disorders, neurodivergence and others couldn't be in a game like that if or another life management video game for me it's not scary it's part of the real world you're not going to have characters like barbie and ken dolls, precisely personally I would like some things to be functional most children play more games like Fortnite or call of duty than life management games so it would be interesting that it to be functional

Elyane Bigeard

These are great additions. I'm wheelchair bound and I use an insulin pump. Even if these items were functional I'd still have my para not use them but the fact that you were thinking of people like us is very sweet. I'd give ya'll a big ol hug if I could lol. The game keeps looking more and more amazing. I can't wait to play

Alexi

Love having things I see/use in real life, that’s awesome

just a little bawn

trying not to repeat everyone else's comments, but dang this is so good <33 thank you all for your dedication to this project. when i saw the stim toys for the first time (last week, or the one before?) i got so excited to see more of it. also absolutely loving the regular clutter and the exterior! fantastic job 🥰

Sehrys

These look wonderful! I'm so happy you guys are including these items in the game, even if they won't all be usable. It would be amazing to see items related to people who have a stoma.

Mooncinder

I am speechless at your thoughtful depiction of equipment needed for disabled people. I love the diversity. This game just gets better and better. Just a thought though, I hope Billy the fish isn't one of the singing ones...😂

Mysteri

So cool to see these needs represented! I hope to see them usable with gameplay at some stage 🙂

Nouls

I love this sooo much! The attention to details is amazing!!

Hanna

I really love that you've added these items! Hopefully they can be implemented with gameplay attached to them at some point after the early access release (and if they are I'd suggest wheelchair/chair lifts for stairs), but I don't think I've ever seen most of these items in a game before, so it's really nice that they are in Paralives now, even as clutter!

Leaf

i would like to see more gothic-dark themes for furniture

Joel Jimenez

Lovely the post and all this attention to include this items. What I suggest for other items would be a gymnastic ball (regarding people with spinal problems and doing some kineto therapy) and some elastic bands. Keep up the good work! <3

T Vasilief

I'm tearing up. I love the attention detail the paralives team is putting into creating this game. I'm glad that others are getting the representation they do richly deserve. Thank you

Ellie

Yvette, you beat me to it. The thoughts that came into my mind when i read "Mental disorders other than autistic" and "For my let's play"...

Isis Barcelos

Oh geeze, that's too funny. I was so confused.

Kt S

My favorite part is the fancy sign in the shelf in the autistic person's room that just says "Help" 😂

Artis Zaķis

Hmm, maybe it's a fromage hommage to skyrim within baldur's gate 🤷‍♀️ There you can be turned to a cheese wheel and since minimum Alex likes BG3 I assumed this was the source of inspiration :)

Liesel Strick

Just letting you know — because I think this is important — autism is not a mental disorder but rather a type of neurodivergence. Like two different computer systems (our brains being the computers), we might think differently but autism is not a mental health issue. Also… they’re doing this for representation not for creepy lets plays (respectfully)

Yvette Lopez

LOVE SO MUCH and my only criticism is the PC not having a dark mode screen lol

Yvette Lopez

Thank you for such thoughtful inclusion. I was surprised as to how much it touched me to see the asthma inhaler. If that representation matters to me when my asthma is controlled enough to not require accommodations day to day, I can’t imagine how much it would mean to those who do.

Lauren B

I loooovvveee seeing a life sim not ignore the fact disabled ppl and people with disorders exist

Zinck

As a hearing person, I play games with the sound off a lot because I'm playing in a communal space and conflicting noises can be overwhelming and headphones aren't always an option. So, visual indicators along with audio ones are very helpful.

BonaparteBardithion .

I genuinely teared up looking at these objects. I know they are not functioning and I hope at some point making them functional (or at least interactive) becomes a focus, but honestly just seeing things like the stim toy, an oxygen tank, the shower. I'm a very big fan of this and appreciate the time you took to respond to this pretty consistent feedback of all life sims. I also have to say, I'm obsessed with that kitchen and am craving the tools to build one like it. This whole post made me so happy (and to be honest, skipping from the inzoi reddit over here, I'm grateful).

Ellen Kaluza

Elevators would be greatly appreciated so that players can attempt tall builds like apartments or office buildings. They're really a quality of life feature for everyone.

BonaparteBardithion .

It was autocorrect, sorry. 😅 I was also wondering about animation limitations putting appliances at different levels. That's why microwaves are only usable on counters in The Sims but I'd like being able to have one on a shelf like this or an overhead unit

BonaparteBardithion .

It’s cool to see items for diabetics being included. I can’t normally represent myself that way in games. The only time my pump is detached, though, is when I’m changing my site or showering/swimming. It steadily delivers insulin throughout the night and day.

Anabel Blunk

This is so thoughtful and sweet. Very cool ideas!

Vash T

I think they got autocorrect from the word ‘note’ :)

Crystal Wilkinson

wasn't joking, thanks. Truly asking, as Sims need a full block to operate but maybe Paras won't need that much space

Kt S

It's already not bad what you do but is it possible for some elements to become functional? And it would be cool to put mental disorders other than autistic disorders even if it is part of it, I would like to have a schizophrenic character or with an eating disorder or an intermittent explosive disorder for my let's play that I would do later

Elyane Bigeard

My daughter has ADHD and dyslexia, so it was very touching to me to see the stim and sensory items. Thank you so much for the representation.

Temesha Hostetler

I freaking love this! I think a lot of players will really appreciate this.

phoenix grey

On a similar joke, is the microwave useable and can it be used on any surface?

BonaparteBardithion .

I think I might actually cry. This update is amazing, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!!

Oddity Odyssey

C'est trop mignon vous pensez vraiment à tout.

KittyPara

I actually teared up a little. I'm autistic and have a grave impaired vision and this is not in any sims game. You guys are so amazing and compassionate and i love you so much for that. I hope i spelled it all right. I'm from Sweden. 💞💖💞💖😁

PinkRosie

So cute! I really hope we will be able to add this adorable house and its contents to our game. :)

Slippers

Do you plan to make most of these objects usable in the future?

Lucie Baha

Thank you.

Gina Ayars-Ritchey

I am also tearing up seeing the love and care you are all putting into this game - representing and normalizing conditions is important and I hope this inspires other game creators as well. And I was surprised and happy to see you had more than one kind of asthma inhaler too! And the tampons. I use a menstrual cup but I'm so happy to see tampons as I always leave some tampon/pads out for any guests. One question: with the eggs being colourable -- does this include the ability for us to create some brightly coloured Easter versions for decor? :) (NOT a high priority if not, just curious if it's already possible without you doing extra work)

Jennifer

With the cluttered counter top, are they still usable by the Paras?

Kt S

Thank you so much for this wholesome post. This was something I really needed ♥️ It feels so nice to be represented and seen in a game. Thank you for being so thoughtful. Your posts always feel like a virtual hug. Greetings to the whole team and have a nice weekend 🫶 P. S. And the cheese wheel because of Baldur's gate?

Liesel Strick

The amount of thought and love you put in this game is so extraordinary and i cannot wait to finally see all of this in action and lose myself in every little detail! Thank you all so much, this is going to be incredible 🧡

Nathalie S

I love those crutches! I hope we'll have some pattern options for a mobility aid covered in stickers, as my crutch is completely plastered lol

Robot

So cool

Sláine Sheils

Love this! I really appreciate it's not just the more common items like a cane, wheelchair and hearing aids. You've got mobility aids, medicine, medical aids, hygiene products, sensory aids, and whatnot - so much variety. It will really help players feel like they can represent themselves and/or a more diverse collection of paras. Not to mention the story telling and, if some of these items eventually are usable/interactable, can give a lot of variety in game play and story telling. Wonder if it would be possible to, eventually, add hearing aids as 'jewelry'/'decoration' for paras to wear, including the bone conducting ones or even implants? And could we, eventually, get a rollator in addition to the walker? Walkers are so outdated I've only ever seen them on US television shows. Rollators would give some great story telling options, especially if the para using them could sit on them and it had placement options for certain objects, like pretending the para is doing groceries with the rollator. Some minor suggestions that might be easily doable: Would love some recolorable items for the white cane, like with different red/black markings on the length of the cane rather than just a red end. I've never seen them like that in my country. The marshmallow tip is also one I'm unfamiliar with, unless it's similar to a rolling ball at the end? And it'd be neat of the white cane color options would also be available to the walking cane, as I often see older visually impaired people walking around with them - their eyesight is not so poor they require a white cane to feel their way around but it isn't perfect either and this way it aids in their balance as well as alerting others partaking in traffic that they are visually impaired.

Zedef

I would love to see dyslexia represented. There are a lot of incorrect representations of it. When i went to a restaurant I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't like mayo instead of saying no mayo i said no mustered. Word replacement like that happens, maybe that can be represented with the together cards. Dyslexics are also more likely to be ambidextrous. Also for anyone here who is dyslexic there is a browser extension called Dyslexic Browser, it has a ruler, text-to-speech (highlight an area and then hit read aloud, dyslexic font.

Carelle

I second the flashing light doorbell, I think it even would have an actual use for players who suffer from anxiety, for instance, not to mention deaf players obviously. But the idea of muting the game is also interesting, and I don't feel like it'd be the hardest implementation compared to other disability representations.

ladyteruki

As someone who is disabled and also has an auto-immune illness, this just warms my heart. Thank you so much. Disabled people and cozy/life simulation games should not be antithetical, but in the gaming industry they often seem like they are. Indeed previous posts had led me to believe that Paralives would not feature disability much, but I'm glad that I was wrong. So many objects ! Even some items that will be useful in any house, like the first aid kit and the medication, are much welcome. But the handles in the bathroom, though, THE HANDLES ! This is fantastic ! Can we rotate them, to place them on a diagonal (which is often the case near the toilet) or vertically (for instance at the exit of the shower) against the wall ? And I just wish I had a crutch holder like the ones you have placed around the house ! My crutch is always in the way when I'm not using it XD As a matter of fact, I could use an all purple crutch IRL (my favorite color !). Speaking of, I'm not sure whether the crutch is a separate asset from the holder (the white cane would imply that it is ?), but it's really cool in any case. The devil is also in the details for preexisting objects, for instance I love how you placed the microwave at an accessible height (is it still functional when placed this low ?), or the desk-shelf above the bed of the auto-immune kid (...same question, actually : can they use it while sitting on the bed ?). It shows that you did not just do your research, you tried to walk a mile in our shoes, so to speak. I really appreciate that. Of course, the Early Access release being dedicated to offering the foundational core of the game, I don't expect them to be functional just yet (although what a treat if some of them turn out to be), but it's certainly something to hope for in the future, post-Early Access. It might prove complex in some cases, but providing a framework for mod devs to build upon will really be appreciated in the long term.

ladyteruki

If disabilities are planned for the full release AND if the town and its residents will not be updated after Early Access, it's best to work on them before Early Access in order to have disabled Paras in the initial town! Other than that those items/furniture are amazing <3

Tauras Giedraitis

Omg this is the best update yet! Thank you for taking the time to include these inclusion items. Even not usable yet it’s great to have them in the game.

Jade Young

Also love seeing the weekly post and the lovely surprise we will be getting on the topic that you guys are showing us. Outside of the game play I think just having these items in game is already show more dedication to the community and fans then other life sim game *ahem* EA. Now I know you guys are wrapping up the build mode and will soon transition to live mode development. So with that in mind and the complexity you mentioned in the post I will hold off on some of the questions. Though I do have two: 1.) I can't remember it it was showcased yet but will we have spiral staircases as an alternative option or even elevators. It is a thought that occurred as I was looking at the stairs in the house. 2.) You mentioned winter nights, does that mean the game will have a cold mechanic were we need to keep our parasols comfortable or say in summer heat where we need to cool them down. This might be a bit far down the line as it should tie to seasons but I was curious if this is something you guys are planning on looking at. As always love hear from you guys. Makes the wait till next year bearable. 🥰

Jean321x .

The game is looking amazing

Lucas Medeiros

I love all the clutter items and the accessibility builds and accessories are briliant!! Wonderful detail!! ❤️

tey711

This’s soooo lovely as usual, but srsly who else want that duck cushion IRL 🙋🏻

Andie

This is honestly so amazing. Even if they won't be functional until after early access, the fact you guys even added these items makes me so happy and I'm sure will make other players feel so represented ❤️

bonkybon

Wow! This is so refreshing to see! Such amazing and detailed work 🥰 Thank you so much!!

Tal

Definitely love the fact that you guys are putting this stuff in the game. I am really looking forward to playing this game next year. I feel like I can absolutely create some Para Folks with the highest level of authenticity in a life sim game ever.

John Bergstrom

Having the models in the game will help any modders who would like to tackle the challenge of adding animations and utility to those items, while sticking to the established style. If you want an idea for another item, I think some deaf people have a flashing light for when people press the door bell. Could also be way cool if the game got muted when you are actively playing as a deaf Parafolk. Just the gameplay noises, the background music could still play, as it influences the feel of the game. Most likely won't be for everyone, but I could see it be a mod.

Vera Ohlsen

I absolutely love this!! Thank you for your efforts to represent everyone 🥹🫶🏾

Destinee Bennett

Oh my goodness! So many amazing details, and some awesome rep! It’s kinda silly but even the tampons/pads made me rlly happy to see, so much thoughtful clutter and attention to detail! There will be so much variety in town, entering a house and seeing the items to figure out how characters are coded, it’s all awesome! I’m also very partial to the “help” sign 😂😭 amazing job team!!

Cece

I agree. It is just so well thought out. Amazing post.

Stewby

Love the inclusion! You guys are absolutely amazing <3 Just to add that another easy-ish way to add disability representation might be prosthetics and hearing aids and such since you could probably just have them be clothing items and accessories.

Aleacam

I just want to chime in with everyone and say how much I appreciate the addition of the disability items. I can't imagine how complex it must be to implement them functionally in the game, especially with representing the difficulties/dangers people would have functioning *without* these items, so I really, really appreciate the work you've already put in and the goals you're setting for later on in development. There's something disheartening in other sim games (definitely looking at you, EA) about everyone's perfect health and level of ability. It makes the world feel bland and it's kind of insulting, and the only representation for mental illness came in the form of personal traits like "crazy!!" that were full-stop hurtful to see lol. It was treated as a joke. But that's not the case here at all. I had to stop and look at the walking cane for a second and be like, huh, I could actually make someone like me?? The scenery items add a sense of acknowledgement even without the functionality. Like, if I have a para with mental illness, I could call the pills on the shelf antidepressants or antipsychotics and feel included. You're making a game with compassion and it means the world to people. ❤️ You guys are doing amazing!!!

I am in the medical field and it's awesome you have included so many diverse items! Wow! So much love goes into this game and I am here for it <3

😱 Seeing myself represented in a game. I am in tears right now. Even though it's just decoration, I feel seen. Thank you guys so much! You are my favorite studio and I can't wait to play!

BreakingGaia

You guys amaze me every week! I will actually enjoy building in this game based on what I’ve seen so far. Keep up the great work!

Ashley McEachern

everything in this post is so wonderful I'm so grateful for you all and this beautiful game!! sooo excited to what 2025 brings! <3

wow! i really appreciate how much thought and care you put into this! even just having decor items that aren't functional make this game feel so much more inclusive and realistic! i'm autistic and while that might not need specific physical things as much as some other disabilities, it's amazing how much more personality and individuality these items can bring to a room. i immediately spotted the stim toys and big headphones and without reading the caption knew this had to be the room of a nd para. i think this is really beautiful and adds so much to the game and the asthma pump will be a great visual representation of mine, which i forget at home so often it could also be classified as a decor item atp lol no but seriously though, i can't speak for anyone else, but i really appreciate this so much, thank you paralives-team!

I almost feel a little silly for saying so, but seeing this update has legitimately made me tear up. I feel like most game studios are often really reluctant to even try to include things like this, and I do understand why. It can be hard to implement and represent, because disability can look so many different ways for so many different people. Oops, I hit enter before I meant to, just adding on here: As someone who is multiply disabled, it means a lot to me to see the effort being made, even if it's just a sort of visual or cosmetic representation at this point. I think even that is worthwhile for storytelling purposes. I definitely understand that as an indie studio you have to be really mindful about the scope of the game, but I look forward to seeing how else you might flesh out this kind of representation down the line.

It isssss I can't believe people are noticing it now ahah!

Chloé Ouellet

This is awesome! I especially love all of the new kitchen items!!

Sarah Rodrigues

As a disabled person myself, I really appreciate everything you’ve put into the game! Regardless if it’s functional or not. Just seeing these items in houses makes the space more alive and lived in. It’s nice that we don’t have to download mods for this stuff. So thank you! I can’t wait to see what ya’ll have to show us next!

Artistforeternity

All this clutter looks so real and cozy, I want to teleport inside the game T_T

Océane Gougeon

Thank you for representing us. As an an autistic person with chronic disease and mobility disability, it means a lot! Also the different clutters are all so pretty and well thought! I can't wait! Thank you for your hard work and dedication 💜🕯️

Candle

As someone who's autistic, this is BRILLIANT!!!!

Eleanor Swan

These look wonderful. Big appreciation for the effort and love you put into making everything look so beautiful!

Fran Smith

Is that poster on the geek wall a The Summer Hikaru Died reference?

Kristen Eldridge

Its so awesome to see all the inclusive items. Even not useable, its amazing to have them in the game and not have to download custom content to have it

Court12413

Hi! So a lot of the clutter/decor items are just to decorate and don't have a gameplay purpose. Some might eventually, but this will be decided once work on the live mode advances!

Chloé Ouellet

Woooo! Thank you so much for this information. Makes me even more excited for this game 💜

Amber Plumley

I LOVE THIS! Just having the decor items to start with really makes the world feel alive and real! And I'm really hoping for a time after release when some gameplay effects to go with them can be developed❤️

Lisa Hedlund

Hiii!! This was amazing!! I love seeing the inclusion of disability aids around the build and to see more than just one or two things. Also love the clutter I'm seeing!! Especially for a kitchen I feel like clutter looks so real. Seeing that shelf is so perfect to me. Love how much personality everything has especially in the bedrooms. Can I just say I love having the block colour curtains?? And bathroom clutter too yessssssss. I would love to see kid and baby clutter added. Stuff for their bedrooms and nurseries and that seem like they belong. Maybe even stuff for babies in the kitchen and bathroom (formula tin, baby bath, etc). Plus toys are great and I'd never say no to more. Thanks for showing off so much nice little details today. 🥳

Trisha

Omg, this is so incredible!!! I love the details of the pads in the bathroom and the stim toys genuinely made me tear up a bit. Aside from the fact that they’re representation, and that MATTERS, the mobility and disability/assistive devices are a meaningful way to clutter up and make a place look homely and lived in. AMAZING!!!

Remy W

Lots of cool new items! I love to clutter :) Inspiration for new items: I would love to see more candles in different shapes and sizes because I also have a lot of candles and lanterns in my apartment.

CookieCake

Eventually disability items will be added to the Paramaker, and yes stim jewellery, like chewelry, is considered!

Chloé Ouellet

The way I ZOOMED here when I read the title of the post!! Wow!!! I can't adequately express how excited I am for disability related clutter. These rooms are all so good ❤️

Eden Chan

How usable are these items for example is the headphones decor or can it be used by paras?

Dior K

I love love love every detail and clutter! I don't mind waiting for gameplay related to disabilities on future updates after release. There's no rush, as we've seen how much you all care about all the players and want to represent all of them!

Una_simple_ kpoper

As a disabled person I definitely approve of everything here. It all looks so fantastic. Thank you for caring for your players 💕

Gill Reid

This made me tear up, thank you so much. Even if it not usable yet this is amazing. Thank you for listening to us. ❤️

Maxayn Henderson

Wow, how considerate of you to add items that represent a disability, it adds so much realism to the game! And I loveee the clutter, I can't get enough. Gorgeous parahome & I love the detail of the ramp leading to the front door 💕

ZLoves

Holy cow this is all amazing! I am curious though, since I seen a fidget spinner, will there be other stim items? Possibly rings and or necklaces? I am actually looking into getting a fidget ring to see if it'd help me out in real life and wonder if a fidget ring/animations could come about eventually?

Amber Plumley

Thank you for always keeping us on the loop, we as players truly appreciate getting more and more hyped up!! ⚡️

Migs

Everything is gorgeous! I love that you guys truly care for your players ❤️
