2023-10-11 02:44:01 +0000 UTCAwesome! I have read so much Arthur C Clarke (he was quite a cut-up, with a lot of his sci fi stories going on and on, just to have a silly pun or joke twist at the end). This was not even his best work. But the movie was awesome. The book tackles the "space nerd" stuff, while the movie gives to the "movie nerd." It's a great pairing. Spoiler alert - in the book, it turns out HAL was actually right and the AE-35 unit did, in fact, break down. We learn this during Dave's final transit to the monolith (he had to aim the whole ship at Earth periodically, since that unit was responsible for positioning the big array).
