Update

This most recent chapter of Focus has been a bit... tough to finish. Between my life - chaos - my work - chaos - and me - absolute chaos - things have a bit slow moving lately. Hopefully though, I'm at the beginning of a whole new start where I can find a solid rhythm again. Which means with any luck, I will be getting you the chapter in just a few days time at most.

So after the last few posts, I feel like I just need to start really spilling out what my thoughts are behind what I'm working on. You can take them or leave them but at the very least I want to be able to point you somewhere if you want to know what's behind the process since so many people ask me about it. In this case I just want to talk some more about Focus and where my brain is on it.

Focus was a very intentional name. It doesn't always work like that, sometimes things take a long time before a good name reveals itself, and even then it may not be right.  With Focus though, it was always there.

I knew right away that I was going to take the story from the perspective of a skater and a camera girl, two professions that truly do go hand in hand in so many ways. Lord knows that i had a lot of tog friends back in the day back there was this really great mutual respect between our crafts. There's an interesting link between photography and skateboarding as well, and that is focus.

In photography, it’s the act of adjusting your lens in order to get the clearest picture. In skateboarding, however, it’s the act of snapping your deck in half, usually because of a bad landing or y'know, rage. You have these two acts that are polar opposites – creation vs. destruction – but they have the same name so they have something in common. 

Of course, my brain doesn't know how to stop right there. I have to take the metaphorical and metaphysical and tear them apart and what I found is this. Focus in regards to photography can be considered destruction as well - it's the destruction of the reality that others may see and forcing others to see it from yours. Focus regarding to skateboarding can represent creation - the creation of raw emotion manifested into action.

I love duality and this whole concept of duality was extremely intriguing to me. It's given me a deeper understanding of the characters and who they are. Who they want to be. What they want to be. It's all been very enlightening. 

So, despite the slow moving progress on everything, rest assured that I have a lot of passion for this project and so many ideas. I'm caught in a bit of a snare now but it will work itself out eventually. At least, it should with enough hard work, persistence and a bit of luck; the trifecta of what writing really is.

Alright now, quick update. 

So, I had a ton of fun connecting with you guys and answering questions during the AMA. I'm sorry about those last few questions, this week guys, but I did answer them before I closed the channel so, there ya go. I want to shoot to do something like that monthly so in a few weeks we can talk about plans on that again,

Uhm, Sweet Tooth. I have no fucking idea what's going on with Lit. They are all kinds of fucked up. That's my explanation. I don't want to pull my work from there again and have anyone think I'm abandoning the writing scene again but man, oh man, they are fucking with my work over there a a lot and I am not happy about it. Who knows, maybe I'll just make it openly available on here eventually.
