Scraps - Writer's Block

“Argh!”

I heard the exclamation from all the way down the hall in the kitchen. Someone just hit a wall… I mused to myself and smiled a little, despite my wife’s clear struggle. I grinned a little more as the term wife crossed my mind briefly. Still so fresh, so new and so, so wonderful.

I contemplated whether I should head back and check on her or not when I heard a low groan and then the unmistakable thump of skull meeting hardwood. With a low chuckle and a shake of my head, I abandoned my task of scouting out a snack in favor of comforting Marley. My stomach could wait, her dramatics, apparently, could not.

“Something the matter, my dear?” I asked, leaning against the door frame of Marley’s office.

“Dawerlsuks,” she grumbled out unintelligibly. Well, mostly unintelligibly.

“Yeah, the world does suck,” I remarked and walked over to rub her shoulders lightly. “You wanna be a little more specific though, babe?”

Marley lifted her head and took a big breath, as if she were coming up for air. An adolescent memory of my darling wife crossed my mind briefly and I laid a kiss to the top of her head in response to it. This woman, how I loved her so.

“I can’t… I can’t seem to… you know what? I have no fucking idea what my problem is.” Marley let out a heavy sigh and then threw her head back so she could look up at me with those big green eyes; green eyes that looked absolutely pitiful right now. “Help me.”

I threw her a sly grin before dropping a wink. “I think I have just the ticket.”

“Oh, yeah?” Marley replied in a voice that held more then a little interest to it. It could be argued that she was up for more then just a minor distraction.

“Mm-hmm,” I hummed and kissed her cheek before lowering my voice. “You’ll have to leave your cave though. I wouldn’t want to defile your sacred space.”

Marley reached up and nipped my bottom lip before smirking. “I think I’ll be able to manage the taint.”

“Well, in that case…” I trailed off suggestively before spinning her chair around to face me.

A giggle left Marley just before she grinned, looking absolutely giddy. Quite a far cry from her mood just minutes prior. That was her way though. Sometimes her emotions just flipped on a dime.

It was always a wild ride with Marley but hey, that’s just how I liked my life.
