Scraps - Radar Love
Added 2018-12-07 13:22:41 +0000 UTC“Okay,” I sighed. “Okay, I packed up early. I’m on my way home.”
“Really!” Katie’s excited screech was so loud I had to pull the phone away from my ear with a wince. “Oh my God, finally!”
“It’s only been like, four days,” I chuckled as I changed lanes toward my exit. “And it’s not like I was even gone! We had lunch on Tuesday!”
“Well… Yeah….” Katie's voice went low and coy, forcing me to tune in and listen intently. “But I’ve missed you, Lil.”
The warm, feel goods fluttered throughout my body at Katie’s words. “Mm, I missed you too.”
“No, babe, I miss you,” Katie purred.
Oh. Oh! Hmm…
“Is that so?” I asked, slipping into a low growl unconsciously. Katie hummed out a response in the affirmative and I uttered a low chuckle at the vibrant enthusiasm in her response. “Wonder what I could do about that?”
“Mm…” I could hear the frown of disappointment coloring that sound. “I know you know. Why must you always make a game out of it.”
“Because it’s fun. C’mon, Katie, you know me better than that. What’s the point if I’m not having fun?” My features morphed into an expression of unbelief at my wife’s words – and something told me that she knew I was casting such a look at her even though she couldn’t see me.
Katie’s giggle threw enough weight in favor of my argument that her following verbal response was completely unnecessary. “There is none.”
“Nope. None,” I said and shook my head. We both shared a brief, light chuckle together before I steered back on topic. “You’re right though. I do have thoughts…”
“Mm, do you? Do you have thoughts dot dot dot?” Katie laughed again. It wasn’t a sexy laugh though. It was one of amusement.
I frowned. “Katie, baby, darling, love of my life, are you mocking me?”
“What?” Katie exclaimed in mock surprise, as if she couldn’t believe such an accusation. “No! How could you even say such a thing? How could you even have such thoughts dot dot dot.”
This. Bitch. She was trying to be funny. I was not amused.
“You’re seriously mocking me right now?”
“I mean, yeah. Just a little bit.”
“I’m literally running home to fuck you right now,” I shouted before sighing and rolling my eyes. “Bitch.”
Katie was delighted with this response. She laughed in such a light, free way at my outburst that I couldn’t help smiling. Soon, I was laughing along with her, unable to contain myself from her mirth anymore.
“You’re a ridiculous goof, love,” Katie said with a sweet little hum on her lips.
“Yeah?” I asked as the last of my chuckles tapered off. “Well, I’m your ridiculous goof.”
“Lucky me,” Katie mused. We both let that linger between us for a few silent moments before Katie hummed in thought and then sighed. “When are you gonna be home?”
I smiled to myself as I killed the ignition and stepped out of the car door. “Oh, not much longer.”
