EARLY ACCESS: YouTube Has a Gambling Problem?

Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day, and today I finally get around to talking about one of YouTube's biggest advertisers... Sports Gambling Sites! Plus, a little more backstory on your favorite Canadian... did you know I used to be the voice of an old rock star's bar? This video packs quite a bit into the 10 minutes, including YouTube's terrible policies that don't actually help anyone, restricted Balatro videos, and gambling for kids being normalized in society. Also this might be one of my favorite thumbnails I've ever made. Enjoy!
What's more important to YouTube... making as much money as possible? Or... you don't really need to see any second option, do you? Buckley looks at YouTube's recent changes to its policies around gambling content in order to "protect kids", but they made a very strange exception. Apparently, kids can see 100 ads for sports betting sites, but need to be protected from Balatro videos? And is there even a point for YouTube to do this, when kids have been gambling for decades?! The Story about kids taking moms credit card is more prevalent than I think you even realize, I was formerly a Supervisor for Apple's Billing department so anytime a kid did an in-app purchase for anything from the app store I was the guy. and I am pretty sure I have requested at a minimum 6 digits worth of refunds in my 3 years Just from kids, if not 7 figures. Though My highest was some dude trying to get years worth of Diablo Immortal purchases refunded totaling $37k USD. talking about how he had his truck stolen and stuff thinking the rules would be bent like I had any real authority. (Btw for anyone curious, that decision basically falls on the app ultimately. if you buy premium currency of any kind and spend it, its basically done. they wont do it, if they don't refund apple, then apple wont refund you either, and they don't really care since there's tons of stuff in place to help people avoid doing this on purpose or on accident for kids or adults, if you dont know and dont want to google it, just call apple support they will screen share and walk you through getting set up exactly how you need it, do that before this shit happens. Prevention is the best defense.)

2025-04-26 20:31:15 +0000 UTCYeah they have it here still once a year, I'm not sure if it was the same scandal as the US one (the US one was heavily rigged for a few years, there's a documentary about it that's pretty good from HBO). I didn't look forward to it as much as a kid, we really didn't eat fast food often, but the commercials sure made it look cool!
