WoK Closing Notes and Break

Well, this wraps up another volume of this series! At over 125k words, Book 3 ended up being the longest one so far. Book 1 had 119k words, and Book 2 was the shortest with 95k.

I was mostly happy with the way it turned out. I know some of you weren’t a fan of the school games and lower stakes battles, but hopefully you still found them entertaining overall.

Book 4 will probably focus less on school battles than Book 3 did. Although, that shouldn’t be hard. Between the qualifying rounds, midterms, and Raizen’s class, I easily spent the majority of this book on this stuff. Fortunately (for those who didn't like it) I got this idea out of my system. I’m still early in the outlining phase for Book 4, but the rough plan is to focus more on training than constant combat scenes.

Personally, my only real complaint about this book was how Akari had much less of an arc than Kalden and Relia. I don’t think this will require any rewrites, though. I already have plans to focus more on her character in Book 4, so that should bring her back into the spotlight more.

Feel free to let me know if you had any comments about the book, or if you’re hoping to see anything specific in Book 4!

Anyway, I’m planning to take a break from this series to re-write and publish Aeonica Book 3. I’m hoping to have that done by July / August. There’s a chance it might be quicker than that, though. I’ll still be working on outlining WoS Book 4 in the background, and I’d hope to have the first chapters of that ready no later than August 2023.

In the past, I’ve paused Patreon during breaks. I probably won’t do that yet, since we’re still 8 chapters ahead of the public. (Royal Road readers won’t get the epilogue chapter until mid-July.) But if we get to August and I don’t have any Book 4 chapters posted, I’ll definitely put things on pause. Until then, it’s up to you if you want to stay subscribed or not.

As always, thanks for your support!

I personally enjoyed the school arc. Sure battles are fun but constant battles are tedious. It was nice taking a small step back and focusing on personal development. Overall I liked book 3 more than book 2. Can't wait for book 4!
