The Little Mermaid Live Action Full Reaction W/Video

Comments

this movie would scare me if I were a little kid lmao

As one who was born the year the original came out (1989) and grew up with that version, I was prepared to not be the biggest fan of the live action. Of course, there's no comparing it to the animation, but I was genuinely, pleasantly surprised!! I really enjoyed a lot of aspects of this movie, and I thought the casting was terrific. Great reaction, Nick. :)

I can and will rant for hours about how much I despise this version! I will spare you for now. I will name one and probably the most annoying to me. The demasculinizing of Eric. It's absolutely unacceptable that they took his heroic moment away from him and gave it to Ariel. All while having Eric, a prince, yes, but also a sailor, hanging upside down from the ship he's on tangled in a rope that is super easy to get out of. They make him out to be incapable and weak. While in the original Both Ariel and Eric showed their strengths in their own way. Ariel by going against what her Father said, even though he was the ruler of the mermaids. She felt a calling and longing and went. Eric because he showed gratitude for the one who saved him. As well as showing that when it came down to it, he could protect the one he had fallen in love with. I will give it to this version, they spent more time showing the growing relationship between Ariel and Eric. However, the rest of the film suffered. I like how I said I would spare you. I literally only talked about one 30 second clip of the movie. Imagine the rest of the stuff I have to say.

love the original more but this one is amazing for the new generation

I think you'd like to know that Jodi Bensen-original voice for Ariel-was the woman in the market who hands her the fork, which I found to be a very sweet way of supporting Halle <3
