Hey everyone! First off, Merry Christmas!! Hope you have a happy holiday and this was also a top tier patron request. So I am aware this is an original version of this and will do that this week as well, but wanted to watch this one first out of respect to my top tier patron! But hope you enjoy!!

I've always watched this remake every Christmas season and enjoyed it, except, like you and a lot of people, the relationship between Dorey and Bryan seemed forced and didn't fit quite right. They didn't develop it enough to make me believe that, yes, they would get married in the end. Then, this year, I finally watched the original for the first time, and I saw its attraction and charm. There are definitely things I like about both movies. I think the original may just be a tad better than the remake for me, but I would still watch both films. Curious about Nick's reaction to the original after watching the remake.

Yeah, by skipping the scenes of their relationship it instantly elevates the movie to like a 9 or a 9.5 for me. There's so many aspects of this movie to love, and Richard Attenborough plays one of my favorite on-screen live-action Santas in ANY Christmas movie. There aren't a whole lot of Christmas movies that I love so much that I go back and rewatch them each Christmas season, but this is one that I do (again, only if I skip the cringy relationship parts).

And yes I agree with the relationship. I just find the last line about the gift already on it's way hilarious. I tend to skip their scenes on rewatch, too, lmfao edit: I think what they tried to do was make them old fashioned-courting-and it doesn't add up for today lol

When you were giving your final closing thoughts on this movie I couldn't help but bust into a smile 😁, because the criticism that you have of it is the EXACT same problem that I've always had with this movie. I love 90% of this movie, but the one thing that always bothered me was the lack of establishing the relationship between the mom and Mr Bedford. I always interpreted their dialogue near the beginning of the movie as implying that they did have some sort of romantic history, but it's done so subtly that it's also easy to interpret it as just friends (and honestly that could just be me interpreting it that way because it's the only way that the proposal scene makes even the tiniest bit of sense). Believe it or not the lack of establishing relationship is even worse in the original version, but if you're going to watch it then you'll be able to determine that for yourself. Whenever I rewatch this movie I usually skip past the proposal scene and just pretend that the movie ends at the end of the courtroom scene, breezing past the last like 10 minutes. The two versions of this movie are so incredibly similar, with only minor variations, but since you are going to watch both it'll be interesting to see what if any parts of the original you like better than this one, and which parts of this one you like better.

l love this one, so much. The actor who played Santa actually did know sign language. That scene, and the little girls reaction, wasn't scripted. He surprised her with asking that question.
