Your chess anime would probably be a combination of two, one of which you can see a lot of similarities to - in regard to the presentation of gungi in this arc Shogi: Sangatsu No Lion Go: Hikaru No Go - which is the one that has at times a similar vibe to the gungi games, as well as beautiful art by Obata-san, the same man who was the artist for Death Note Highly recommend both they are fire

One of the most amazing parts of this arc is the parallel character arcs. The arc ends with Gon going from being a human to essentially becoming a monster, and Meruem goes from being the worst monster in the series to having the most human moment in the show. They developed in opposite directions which is so dope
