| What broken wings have taught me |

You wrung it’s neck with a single snap. Didn’t think twice. Only thinking of the pleasure you’d get from watching me spill these tears.

———

When Jones is around twelve he finds an injured dove, it’s wings broken from an accident. Jones cares for it for a while, keeps it a secret for as long as he can. Eventually, as always, Lewis finds out. The bird wouldn’t survive, he’d say, that this was a mercy, he’d snort.

And then he makes his younger brother pray. Animals don’t have souls, don’t go to heaven, but he can thank God for relieving this wounded beast of its suffering.

[ cw abuse mention ]

Mob au Jones doesn’t have a great childhood, Lewis abuses him in every way he knows how. Jones learns that happiness is fleeting and to never get on the wrong side of his brother.

Its by some miracle that Lewis doesn’t find out about his entanglement with Horatio Benotti. Not for a very long time anyway.

I had a lot of fun painting this one, a lot of cursing bcs I kept accidentally painting over the bird, yet very happy with how it turned out!! I realllly enjoy doing these little scenes, and I hope you like the lil bit of lore!

Please enjoy ♥️

My grandparents both grew up raising and slaughtering animals. It is definitely a different world we live in where we think about animals as feelings things now. People as feeling things…

the lighting in the clothes and the seamlines in the pants are incredible to me

Noooo the poor baby. We love hurting our angels but alright listen Joelle. Listen. Sit down. The wood. The details on the wood? Lewis' sexy shoes? The way all these pictures have a sad but very wonderful atmosphere in the sense of story telling... I love it all.
