New video on MALINDA

Hi awesome patrons,

While I work on lots of new music over here I wanted to take a bit to talk about one of the most insidious but also helpful forms of self-comparison; idolization.  I'd been thinking a lot about it so I just wanted to get it off my chest, and when I do my makeup tends to be when I think about things like this xD.  So here we are!!

Thank you all for your continued contributions to the "I Don't Care" translate.  I'm excited to do it.  Let me know what else you'd like to see for both channels!  Always interested in ideas!

THANK YOU ALL!!!

I love videos like this one and your ‘my brain is mean’ one. I think many people can relate to what you say in different ways and it can be comforting to hear it voiced by someone else. So if you like making them and feel comfortable sharing, keep posting.🥰 I can’t wait for the I Don’t Care GTS, some of the translations are so funny! Hope your elbow is improving, I’m sending healing vibes across the seas. Remember it’s okay to have time off uploading if that’s what you need, your mental and physical health always comes first.💛

This was really great and a good piece of inspiration! I would love to see more like this every now and then!! ❤️ You are amazing, and when tjings pile up at work with too much stuff going on, your music is my go-to playlist, so THANK YOU so much for everything you do! ❤️

I loved the Paul Simon GTS - it turned out quite surreal! I'm so glad you are recovering well from your accident.

Hey, since you're already on Paul Simon, how about a GTS of one of the songs from Graceland? So much potential in just about every one of those songs - You Can Call Me Al, Graceland, Diamonds On the Soles of Her Shoes.

I'd love to see another GTS like Total Eclipse & My Heart Will Go On, was thinking the other day that it's All Coming Back To Me Now by Celine Dion would be a great GTS!

As someone who has a tendency to envy other people's lives, or to wish I was more like them in certain ways... I needed to hear this. I wouldn't want anyone I idolize to try to be me rather than their own unique selves, even if they *could* pull it off, and that's a helpful way of reminding my brain that I don't want to spend my whole life trying to be other people either. And even if this is only one of the 7,000 times I learn this lesson, the fact that you've brought it to my attention that it's one I'll probably need to keep learning over and over is helpful, and is going to stick with me. You're so right, that although it's obviously good to be inspired by what other people create, and allow that to raise your standards, those raised standards simultaneously make it harder not to judge ourselves and our own work more harshly. I've never heard anyone articulate that before, and it's definitely something I struggle with as a writer and dabbler in other creative pursuits. So thank you -- for being you, and for sharing this. It's kinda strange to hear you talk about comparing yourself to your musical idols when you're so talented yourself, but I guess nobody is immune to the self-comparison trap.

A cover of Come What May from Moulin Rouge or a translator fails?

Gotta say, I'm personally fine with just listening to you talk rather than sing periodically. You've just got a nice, refreshing outlook on life that I don't get to hear too often otherwise, and I think that's part of what makes you one of my favorite YouTube personalities!

Terri Mouse

Thanks for giving us this talk, we all need this reminder. And you are absolutely one of my inspirations and I always listen to your music when I’m writing. 🤗

Wow. This hits home for me in a weird way. I do the guy-with-a-guitar thing in public from time to time, and my setlist consists mostly of things I personally like, which is not always well-known material. One of the songs is "Seek and Hide," by Lucy Wainwright Roche. It sounds a lot different coming from a Big Bearded Baritone than it does coming from her, but I like the song and so I sing it. Not long ago I had the chance to actually meet Lucy, and I diffidently mentioned to her that I play her song, and said I hoped that was okay with her. She said she was honored and wanted to know if there was a video somewhere of me doing it. I said if I made one I would let her know, but in my head I was thinking, "Yeah, when pigs fly is when I send you a video of me butchering your beautiful song." She was serious. She wants to hear it. Malinda, what you just said in this video makes me think maybe I can overcome my trepidation and make that recording. Thanks.
