To our esteemed Patreon supporters, the purveyors of the finer things in life, it’s been too long since we dropped some flavors. I’ve been dealing with some personal things, both joyful and tragic, so pardon the pause.
Let’s get to the point - we got some sh!t for you guys. This is a double throwback, a unique broadcast that does not exist in the ether of the internet. Back in 2013, Bobbito and I graced the airwaves of WKCR to commemorate 20 years since 1993, a stellar year for our show, when things really started shaking and baking for us, as well as the artists and producers in our circumference. The music was great, and we were having dumb fun.
We were also promoting a talk we gave that week at the New Museum, hosted by Sacha Jenkins. If any of you were there for that, you caught a good one. The standout memory for me is the photographer hired by the museum to document the event fell asleep IN THE FRONT ROW, and we murdered him. When he charged his camera batteries and packed his photo kit earlier that day, I don’t think he could have imagined getting clowned by the subjects he was hired to shoot, and getting laughed at by 200 patrons. Sorry buddy!
So here it is, part 1 of Stretch and Bobbito’s look back at 1993, featuring Akinyele, Kool Keith, ODB, OC, Big L, Masta Ace, Lord Digga, Black Moon, Nas, UMCs, and more.
Part 2 will drop shortly. As soon as it’s out of the oven.
