I just subscribed because your essay on death was the first video of yours I’d seen and it was so reflective, thoughtful and clearly personal that I was moved to support that unique, earnest vulnerability. The internet seems like the worlds worst job with no HR department to address these kinds of issues, and I don’t envy that position at all. It must be really painful to have that acerbic of a response from someone you look up to and I’m sorry you have to deal with it on such a personal video, let along publicly. You handled it with great grace and empathy— I hope, if they respond, it’s in a kind manner, with the knowledge that both of you are creators looking to make more thoughtful, philosophical and entertaining work than a content machine, and that both of your works are individual expressions of grief which can have their own place on the net.

I will say the more successful you are the more people will come after you and just make up shit about you for attention and leverage for clout. They can be unbelievably cruel or just weird. Someone on 4chan or tumblr or something once said I made a video critical of a channel they were a fan of and deleted it but I hadn't done anything even remotely similar. It was just a weird lie and complete fabrication. And while fans can have fair criticisms, people coming at you doesn't always mean you yourself did anything wrong. And fans of your work will often do their own homework and if it's obvious you didn't steal from this person then it's unlikely to touch your income or wider fanbase, especially in the long run. I think you've made a good case for yourself and if this person keeps making these accusations you can probably safely ignore it and not give it all more air on twitter or so on. Especially since they're bringing your dead father into it. That's extremely inappropriate and seems like deliberate bait to upset you and force a reaction. My dad also passed away when I was young and I'd be really upset too. I mean obviously take whatever route you feel is best and I know this is unsolicited so feel free to 100% ignore me but I've had similar stuff happen to me and me responding past a certain point only exacerbated the issue. Either way I'm so sorry you're dealing with this and I hope it passes.

That feeling that someone else's work resembles yours doesn't mean they really "stole" anything, it just means you both emerged from a similar primordial cultural soup. But it's hard to convince anybody of that once they've decided.
