Let's ring in the new year with an oooooold trope~

Hi! I'm a total noob writer (see also: hack) and I was wondering if a potential deconstruction of the "chosen one" narrative would be to frame it this way: a character was not "chosen" by some person, event, or entity beyond their control, but rather the character is a "chosen one" simply because they themselves CHOSE to take initiative. And destiny goes, "Fine, you'll do." Has this been done before? Did anything I just cay make any sense?
Also, HUGE FAN! Always glad to see you guys in action! GO TEAM R&B!

Love this topic, although I usually end up subverting it a bit in my own writing. This video did end up reminding me of a really good short story from Apex Magazine's Upside Down anthology where 3/4 "Chosen Ones" go to take care of some big bad and then it turns out they were all selected as Chosen One's because Cuthulu wanted to draw them to him, so they weren't really Chosen One's, they were prey. It was fun.

A random homeless lady pointed to me in a crowd and told me that I was going to get her some McDonalds' and I'm having an existential crisis as to whether I can really go through with fulfilling her request. Does that mean I'm the Chosen One?
