Lady Fuyou is very smart and/or very in love too. Guess that's all the drive she needed to act the way she did. Pretty wild. Maomao's name definitely fits her personality I'd say.

The dream world is wild sometimes. I've had sleep paralysis before and it was one of those things that felt so real I thought I was gonna die. It's crazy how real our mind can make things when we close our eyes.

Very much loving this show so far. The animation is beautiful. Sleepwalking is a very wild thing for real. Thanks for sharing your sleepwalking story, it's cool to hear. Also yeah sleep paralysis sucks!

Since Mao is translated as cat it fits with her curiosity thus her chibi cat ears that pop up. 9:00 She tripped two years ago, that's not what they think is causing the condition now, it's that she is being given to a military officer as a reward is what they think is the cause. Maomao will often ponder things while looking at her left pinkie, take note. Lady Fuyou gamed the system.

Episode 4 is utterly awesome!

My mom's friend had a condition where one acts out one's dreams, like kicking, thrashing, yelling, and talking. The sleep paralysis part of usual REM sleep wasn't working. ....... I myself have had a couple of strange incidents, where one time I was convinced in my dream that someone was going to attack me, and I jumped out of bed to avoid the attack. Another time, I awoke from a dream with tears streaming down my face, but although I remembered that I had been sad during the dream, I no longer felt the emotion, but I continued to cry. More recently, I have had situations where I was convinced that my dreams were reality, and I was about to act on it when I realized I was in bed. I used to be on Ambien, and for me, if I didn't try to sleep immediately after taking it, after a little while it wouldn't work to put me to sleep (but either way I had a hard time waking up).

Later it is suggested that not even being the first to have the Emperor's son is a guarantee that you will become Empress. It might be that another concubine with a son could be chosen. I think that is a requirement. Even the Emperor is constrained by rules and politics, although he has some leeway. It also doesn't have to be immediate, either.

When she tells Goushin that he doesn't need to call her "Lady Maomao," he starts calling her Xiao Mao, which is little cat or kitten, lol!

Angela

BTW the reason she wears a bandage on her left arm is to hide the scars created by her experiments on herself. Go back to the first episode to see what her arm looks like.

Her name is easy to remember. Mao is the Chinese word for Cat. Her name is literally CatCat.

Hey Guys, here is something you need to think about for this episode with Lady Gyokuyou with what you were saying about being a Concubine. She did not come to the rear palace for love, it was a political marriage. Now that she is the emperor's favorite and has a daughter by him, she will spend the rest of her life in the rear palace. If she doesn't have a son before another concubine, she will stay a concubine and not even be empress. Her life will play out and end in the rear palace. It will be a life where there is political intrigue (it was mentioned about the poison needle attempt on her while pregnant). She will have however many kids the emperor desires and she can bare which will be her life. All this with a many she may or may not care about let alone love. Add to it, she probably had little choice in the matter. As they say, a cage, however gilded and comfortable it is, remains just that: a cage. Side note, may dad would carry on entire conversations with you while still asleep.

I started sleepwalking around 10 years old. I would get up and do something mundane, like getting a drink of water, and my mom sometimes came out and talked to me. Apparently, sleep-me has full conversations. We eventually figured it out 'cause she would tell me to do something in the morning, and then get mad when I had no memory of it and didn't do the thing. However, one odd way it plays out is if I fall asleep watching TV. I will continue to react to the show-laugh, make comments, the whole nine yards, all while completely asleep. I will not remember anything about the show afterwards. I also have sleep paralysis sometimes, and that shit is scary. I'm more likely to hear voices coming from the corner of the room, or down the hallway, then see a figure, although that has happened a few times. Thanks for reacting to this show, it's a little different from most other shows but it gets really interesting. It definitely has elements of a 'detective' type show, which blends in with a broader political type plotline eventually.
