I always saw that scene as more artistic using the nudity to show the vulnerability of the two characters than fan servicey.

I personally love nise, it's one of my favourite series of monogatari. There are a lot of stuff and main topics that generally speaking, i even prefer them over bake. I mean, there's the introduction of kaiki, there's talking shinobu... and even the concept of the "fake", without spoiling anything, is already proving to be one of the most interesting and layered concept throughthout monogatari. In regard of the concept of being strong is the first requirement of a hero... i think what he meant was that is the MAJOR one, the one that really makes a diffence in the end. Of course, being right should be a given, without it you go nowehere in that regard: however, if you encounter a person, a " villain", that couldn't care less of your morale and good sense, like a lot of real people out there, then you are naked and vulnerable, you have no cards to play. So, being "strong" mentally as well as physically, well prepared, in this case makes a difference... whatever that means in actuality. It was just a basic concept, a blueprint of an idea, but i think he meant it that way.

This episode is probably my favorite in Nise, the bath conversation is just gold showing Araragi and Shinobu's relationship and their standings at their present situation. But i would disagree the imagery is "fan servicey", it is definitely "sensual" like most of the direction for the series, but it is not "sexual" in any way or form. You can see that during no shots for the scene we had our usual Araragi's creepy point of view (rolling his eyes and checking the girls bodies from top to bottom, or focusing on a specific part). Shinobu is a part of him, they are not strangers, they are closer to each other and know themselves better than anyone else. Throughout the entire sequence, never does he focus on the fact that she is naked, instead he can only think of her feelings and the reality of her speaking after spending months in regretful silence.
Don't get me wrong, Nise really has LOADS of weird shots and fan service (especially one whole specific episode), but it's just that I wouldn't personally count this as one of them :)
Great reaction as always man!
