Very interesting, I had never noticed he starts giving her the 20k on the visit right after finding out about the drawings. You might be onto something there, since there's no real apparent reason for him to start doing that, other than him saying he just did it as a joke

You also have to remember that before, our only view of Kaiki was through Araragi's perspective!

Kaiki explaining why he likes money so much is probably my favorite quote from the entire series. Just great that Kaiki throws away his plan and just shifts to the locked closet talk as soon as Nadeko adds Kanbaru to the list of people she will kill. It's beautiful how after being confronted with her secret, Nadeko immediately stops the god act and runs in his direction, assaulting him not with her capable-of-destroying-a-city-godlike powers, but with punches and kicks with the strength of a little girl. Just like Ononoki said, whenever he tries to fix something related to someone else, he fails. Just like he failed when disbanding the cult for Gahara's mom, he also failed now when trying to "kill off" Araragi, Hitagi and Shinobu for Nadeko. His victory came through when he stoped trying to fix their problems, and focused on the person itself. Having failed to patch up whatever was her concern, he now offered her a way to save herself. To become something more than just cute This episode just keeps on giving until the very end. And Kaiki was right, the ending serves them right. A very neat detail on Nadeko's character is that her preference of retro stuff wasn't first brought up in her self introduction in Otorimonogatari, but rather, it's a callback from episode 13, all the way back in Bake, when Koyomi wanted to give her swimsuit back, they started kind of a "japanese manga/pop culture reference back and fourth" about, you guessed, stuff from the 80's. Btw, you actually can read Nadeko's manga, there are 3 chapters (and some more might come out in the future), the name is Kimi to Nadekko! xD Also, there's something I'd like to point out, but about Araragi now: remember at the end of Onimonogatari, when we see him 4 months in the future telling Ougi about Hachikuji's passing on? One thing he said there really stuck to my mind, about how "everyone seems to be leaving him", and we can actually see this happening: 1- Meme left town and Araragi doesn't know where he is; 2- Hanekawa left town and is going on a trip around the globe; 3- Hachikuji is in afterlife; and now 4- He has now to leave Nadeko's side and become a distant memory; 5- Kaiki himself out of Araragi's way... for good; So, yeah, Araragi's psyche must be crumbling by that point. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to Hanamonogatari. Nadeko and Kanbaru are the characters I relate with the most from the show, so having arcs focused on both of them back to back is a delight

One of the best episodes hands down, the speech Kaiki gave to Nadeko was so beautiful and I honestly believe his intentions were never to deceive Nadeko but help her, when you think about it, kaiki suddenly put in more money inside the offering box once he saw what was inside the closet and in the end, he tells her to use that money to buy art tools. As for Kaiki's death, The visual imagery of him laying in the snow with half of his body in shade, half of him black, and the other half white, the way Kaiki has always been. The fact that he was just going in the sunlight but dies and half his body is in the shadow. As honest he gets, his past actions will never stop haunting him.
