How Would You Like Me to Denote Secondary Languages Going Forward?

I meant to post this poll yesterday, but I was fairly tied up with other things so it’s going up today.

Going forward in Perversion of Purity, how would you prefer I denote conversations in foreign languages that the viewpoint character understands — keeping in mind that there will be A LOT of it going forward?

Hmm.. I like the italics option, but how to differentiate Parseltongue from, say, French? I know! H̭͖̅ͭo̭͌w ̥ạ̿b̝̼͙̒͒͋o̼̽u͎ͮt̬ͤ ͋ͩ͊this? (i kid)

They will all usually understand at least the meaning so long as it’s the school’s official language — German for Durmstrang, French for Beauxbatons. They have been taking lessons for a little while now.

Don't think it makes a difference so I wouldn't be bothered. If other people didn't understand the German and it made sense with the plot(Harry trying to keep secrets from the hogwarts students re Grindelwald etc) then I would want it in italics. However if zero difference then I don't see the point in splitting it out 🤷‍♂️

Here's an example situation: Harry is talking in German to a bunch of Durmstrang students. Two of the Durmstrang students mutter something in Finnish. Harry understands the German, but not the Finnish. The Finnish will be written in Finnish. The German will be written in English for the reader's sake, as Harry understands German. Would you prefer to see the German italicized or not? -Athena

Do the other characters understand the different languages? Ie the hogwarts students understanding durmstrang or just a select few? If they all understand then no point with the italics. However if just Harry then would prefer the italics
