What causes this? 3D Print finish experiment

Heya folks! Nearing the last step on a new 3D Print finishing technique (no, it doesn’t involve less sanding 🤣)

But I’m noticing my print is two tone where it extrudes out from the body of the rounded part.

This has been sanded but it was evenly sanded throughout the part.

I’m assuming this is caused by how the part was printed 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Just looks interesting to me

Next up… time to get my Mr Miyagi on 😂

I was watching this video this morning (https://youtu.be/CxbidoZCw1A?si=bqBkABsx4-MHqFsh&t=260) , and you might want to check the speeds for the layers and see if it lines up with the slight color shift. This seemed to be aligned with exactly what you were seeing, and I am probably wrong about the filament.

This is also why you may see it with some filaments and not others. Filament may be more consistent or inconsistent on different brands / colors / types.

This is going to sound strange, but I believe it is the angle of the filament. The color change is predominantly where there are overhangs, and when the filament lands on those area it may twist ever so slightly. Its the same principle as the multicolor filaments that look red from the left and blue from the right.

I’ve had a few do something similar and thought it was just due to leaving it in IPA too long but noticed it was in line with how the file was oriented. Wonder if the resin is settling out. Mine was kind of old too so that might have been a factor

Yup! Completely dry but has that funky dual tone. Noticed it after the first round of sanding all the way through 2000 grit wet sanding

Is it completely dry? It looks like the area with less scratches is a bit more damp? It could also it was buffed to the point the sanding scratches were removed. Did you wet sand it? What grit was the final sanding at?
