Taught myself how to skin a rabbit!

Last August I was out hiking and found this tiny bunny on the path up the Gorge, in such perfect condition! I honestly have no idea how it died. The poor lil buddy was still warm and completely intact, and obviously being such a vulture I wanted to preserve what I could and try and learn some new skills in the process!

I'd only been preserving feet, wings and tails at this point so had literally no clue how, but I wanted to see if I could skin the little dude and tan the hide. I was able to preserve the feet which have been made into necklaces (out of stock in the shop at the moment but I do have a couple left I need to relist!) Aaaand I'll have the bones too when I have a spare afternoon to go excavating in the woods!

But yes! Skinning isn't as gorey as I expected which is pretty cool! I couldn't quite skin the head but not bad for my first time I think. And I was able to successfully tan the hide just with salt, egg yolks and mink oil. You can see the finished pelt in the last photo looking like a little fluffy coaster haha!
