Glory to Columbus πŸ–€πŸ’›

Andrew Yurkovic

The sound you were asking about is part of the Crew's post-goal celebration. The club's original shield featured three workers in construction hats, which was a tribute to the city's industrial and working class heritage. When the Crew left their original stadium to move into lower.com Field in 2021, the supporters groups introduced a post-goal ritual where a supporter (and two others) operate a jackhammer on a brick. The slab that gets hammered off receives the player's name, opponent, and goal date, and is placed alongside all of the prior bricks in the team's entrance tunnel. When the teams line up to come out for the game, they are pass by the bricks, and all the names of players who have come before them and the moments they have created. Even in just a few years' time there are already so many memorable players and moments that have been captured in this way. The history they are (literally) building is really meaningful to the players and supporters alike.
