Ch18 finale

It's about 20 pages so make sure you have a minute. Please to be accessing it starting here, a few pages back, to help you get your bearings - https://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/comic/ch18/ch18_258.html

And that's a wrap for Chapter 18 (at last!)! I'll be posting my deeper thoughts on it next weekend, along with some assorted concept art (lots of Jac), and the full script, which is a bit of a mess. This chapter and the last saw massive changes from my original conception, as I wanted to give the book more finality. Originally it was conceived as ending on several big cliffhangers that would entice you towards the sequel; but I ultimately found that distasteful. I will however say that the story of the Quigley family was meant to end this way from page 1. Nevertheless, I cried more putting this together than, I think, when my grandma died. I have very big feelings about all three of these poor souls.

Now, the buffer is empty, and I have an epilogue to draw! Give me two weeks to get that going, it's about 30 pages and will present answers to many of the final hanging questions. I'll start posting that May 26th.

Thank you for sticking with Unsounded for so long, readers. For the old-timers, it's as much your story as it is mine. We've built it together. I hope you're happy with where we've gone, and the children we've made :)

An aside: Feel free to share the early update with Discord, maybe just wait an hour? I'm trying to spread out the bandwidth use so the site doesn't crawl.

Thank you so much for the kind words, Alyssa <3 I'm not allowed to talk about it yet, but there is a reprint coming - in fact, it's a whole new book formatting, as I've signed a deal with a publisher who's going to be taking that over. It'll start with a crowdfund in a few months and if that's successful, you might actually be able to find Unsounded in comic shops! The ones that order it, anyway :) For now, I'm working on the epilogue, and updates resume in a week! Thanks for sticking with the story so long, it couldn't have made it this far without you!

This was a beautiful chapter. Your writing inspired me when I first read your work years ago. While I haven't followed Unsounded consistently, in the course of my own writing, I have often thought back to your work. It's an incredible conclusion, and you have my genuine and heartfelt admiration.

Old Coal Soul

Thank you Ashley, for a rending and magnificent denouement of the Quigley's story. I was overcome, to see how Quigley, Jivi & Matty fared, and also see both Vienne and Sara and Uaid again... I've been a steadfast reader since Chapter 3, and Unsounded has been a noteworthy inspiration to me, in your writing, art, and the sheer gumption you've devoted to this project for so many years. I'm proud to support this Patreon, and to help keep this crazy-train going :D I'll be eager to add the 4th book to my collection, eventually. That's another impressive feat you've continually done - taking such excellent advantage of the fluidity of the web-comic medium, and then self-publishing into the very different dead-tree format. I'll be super happy, to have your physical books to read, in the years to come. I know that your current fans will be first in line to get their own copies, once it's time. However: I hope you might consider - someday in the future - printing a larger re-stock of all the current books (possibly with another Kickstarter of its own), and to then allow your readers to proselytize the word of Unsounded to all the comic shops & bookstores in our home markets. Maybe encourage them to preorder some stock for their stores? I know at least 3-4 stores in the Seattle area that I'd be pleased to approach. To see you receive more readers from a larger audience, and funding for the books, would absolutely be lovely to see. However, I know that that's no easy journey, especially in these newly uncertain times! A lot of moving parts in that type of venture, and perhaps the risk even of too much exposure..? Anyways... Thank you truly, for sharing your love of your story, and doing it for the art of it, at the end of the day. Your dedication is extraordinary, and also the unusual openness you've given us to your creative process during this journey! You're rare, and I appreciate you <3

Heart wrenching, beautiful. A gorgeous finish that has me in tears. Sometimes you have to believe a better world is possible to make it become a reality, sometimes that is a lie that can become true. I’m glad Quigley was finally able to be honest about what the people in his life meant to him, the kind of person he wished he was. Matty deserves that.

Ohhhh man. Speechless and so grateful. What a ride-- Ashley, thank you for taking us along on this amazing ride. Sublime.
