I think I always forget how good this one is. There's a lot to address about this episode: "Medea Culpa" is a play on the Latin phrase "mea culpa," which is basically saying something is your fault. When we first met Jason on this show, he was a drunken wreck because of a tragedy: a woman named Medea, whom he had been with, was angry when he left her for a woman called Glauce. In revenge, Medea killed Glauce, and Jason's children. While it's theoretically possible that these are two different women, I think they more likely are the same Medea. Who knows what happened to her after Hera made her disappear? The ghidrah is a cool monster. It is reminiscent of the dragon in The Magic Sword, but its name calls to mind King Ghidorah, monstrous enemy of Godzilla. I think Jason SHOULD be significantly older than Hercules and Iolaus, but we don't know for sure how old he is here. What's really going on here is that the studio was launching a second Hercules spin-off, Young Hercules. They released a direct-to-video movie, they filmed HtLJ episodes like this, and then they put out the show (albeit with a different actor than this playing Hercules by that time.) They decided to have not only Iolaus, but Jason be young Herc's buddies, so they portrayed Jason as closer to Hercules in age than we would have thought earlier. I'm not wild about that. But I know that, when it comes to Hercules and Xena, continuity often doesn't just take a back seat, it gets dragged behind the car and backed over. 😏
