Great reaction. The implication here was definitely that Townes and Roger are an item. It's part of why Beth was so mad. Not only did she lose her first official match, but her first crush just happened to be with someone else. She wanted something to happen and it didn't. Now as for why Townes invited Beth in his room in the first place, it's ambiguous. There's for sure a certain attraction for her genius and her growth but I'm not certain if it falls into the realm of physical attraction. Maybe a bit.
