Real Life Update (TW: Death)

There was a death in the family yesterday. It was sudden in the sense that I had no advance warning they were actively dying, but not sudden in the sense that I knew they wouldn’t be around much longer. Very old, in poor health for a long time, that sort of thing.
This wasn’t someone I was super close to, so I’m doing okay, but the news definitely punched some of the wind out of my sails. Things are going to be weird behind the scenes this month in ways I wasn’t quite prepared for.
Namely, I’m taking on some extra irl responsibilities during the next few weeks while those in my family who were closer are grieving, hashing out old family drama, going back and forth about arrangements, etc.
I am now Designated Supplier of Hugs, Kleenex and Casseroles, basically. If it’s logistically feasible, I’ll also be traveling for the funeral when all the final details are set. (Next week, I assume.) The aftermath is…maybe gonna get a little ugly, I think, because some longstanding estrangements are about to get MUCH less estranged, but I’ll be on the very fringes of the inter-family slap fights, so I’ll avoid the worst of it.
(Very glad to not be important enough to be in the will, I’ll say that much! Playing moral support is much easier than trying to suplex Aunt Bernice for a crack at the fine china.)
By coincidence, I have the next three days off at my day job, so I’m going to throw myself into recording and editing as much as possible so I can get a bunch of stuff out before I have to leave town. I’ll probably mostly be radio silent-ish until after the funeral, just because there’s a lot to do and I won’t have the emotional bandwidth for much else, but I promise audios will still be out Mon/Wed/Fri with early access for Patrons.
