Is PYT a Ripoff Too?

I've explored the song theft questions before, but this one... it's eerily similar. Today I'm diving into Michael Jackson's classic song "PYT", the original demo version, the final version, noticing similarities with another funky song, and of course, mashing it all up at the end.

NOTE: This is the full edit, which is 2 mins longer than the YouTube edit and does not have a sponsor

Here's the video I point to at the end

I knew ๐Ÿฅด the mystery song as soon as you played the bassline!!! I never thought about that song influencing PYT - but the mix at the end made it make sense. Another good video! ๐Ÿ˜„

I was actually coming here to say the same thing, except I was going to say it looks like the referred videos are off the wall..

Sometimes I do a different ending entirely but forgot to link so on patreon I'm just pointing at nothing haha

Re:the end - what video, you pointed at a brick wall LoL.... Can you put a link to other vids in the bottom of the description or the comments for those of us who don't watch on YT? Also, great video BTW....

100% - I only frame it this way to get the critics in the door. On my Billie Jean/Hall and Oates video I went much deeper into inspiration and the nature of creativity, but got a little more into bass line specifics in this one. My conclusion of course is that no, it's no a ripoff, but inspired in the same way that all songs are - but then I like to play with the similarities in the form of a mashup at the end ๐Ÿ˜‚

Brandon Shaw

Nah. Not a ripoff. I really think people go overboard with stuff like this quite often now. BTW I love when you do mashups and then play your bass over them. Awesome talent bro!

Allen Upshaw

Eh kinda not feeling the whole โ€œripoffโ€ thing. Your whole channel is about the etymology of music and how weโ€™re all inspired by what came before us but when its Mike its a ripoff? This man is the greatest entertainer ever - if we did a video of all the ways he was ripped off it would be 2 hours long

Mental been working on a mix for this.
