Constantine | Full Watch Along

I really looooooved Constantine! It's dark, smoky, and unapologetically cynical. It's a meditation on what it means to live in a world already split between Heaven and Hell. This movie doesn't treat them like faraway realms, it treats them as reflections of the choices we make here every day. Every act of kindness or cruelty tips your own personal balance. And if you all have been following my BSG journey, you know how much I believe in this already. We're not waiting until the end to see which way our scales tip, we're already living in both.

In the middle of this balance stands John Constantine. Keanu Reeves at his most haunted and human form yet, which is honestly wild to even say after seeing John Wick recently. He's the man who has seen too much to believe and suffered too much to stop. A sinner who does holy work, a cynic who still chooses to fight for something better. What makes him so poetic is that he doesn't just fight out of hope. He fights out of defiance.

Keanu's role was so elegant and heartbreaking, yet again. He really does have a knack for these roles. You can feel the weight of his damnation in every exhale, every cigarette. And that final act of restraint, when he doesn't take what he easily could, said everything about who he's become. He finally finds a sliver of peace by letting go. By proving to himself that redemption doesn't always need a reward.

So for me, Constantine was a mirror. One that reflects the hells we build and the heavens we yearn and reach for. It's poetic, tragic, and strangely comforting. Because if Heaven and Hell really are already here, then maybe salvation isn't some distant promise. Maybe it's just the small, defiant choice to do good in a world that tempts us not to.

Thank you all so much for the votes and recommendations for this one! Keanu Reeves is one of my favorite actor discoveries of this year, hands down! It's crazy how Constantine felt like it was speaking my language. A world where Heaven and Hell already coexist, where every soul is caught in the tragic web between both. And one man had the audacity to stare down the Devil and flip him off on his way to salvation... 10/10 for me 🤣🔥

Another film recommendation with a similar vibe and religious undertones, is The Boondock Saints. It's another cult classic with an incredible cast, epic noir-action scenes, and the soundtrack was used well.

I freaking loved this movie. I absolutely loved the cast of this film, was not expecting to see Shia LaBeouf in this. The visuals and the story were freaking epic. Last I heard on the sequel, James Gunn, head of DC Studios, said they are still waiting on the script and he stays in contact with Keanu. I recognized Djimon Honsou(Guardians of the Galaxy 1, Captain Marvel, Gladiator), Tilda Swinton( Doctor Strange), the actor that played the priest(Pruitt Taylor Vince). My time with Matt Ryan's portrayal of John Constantine sorta prepared me for this film, so it wasn't too bad on the horror aspects. I would recommend checking out his tv show, since it's mostly self-contained.

Yesssss! Hearing A Perfect Circle in that bar felt so fitting and I was completely taken back. I loooove how much music goes into movies with Keanu Reeves lol. And yesss, more in the Keanu Universe for sure! I actually didn't play Cyberpunk on YouTube so I can't re-upload that since it was on Twitch.. Very sad! But I did only get through the beginning of the game before I ended up stopping Twitch, so maybe I could re-visit it for an eventual YouTube playthrough sometime! Thank you for the details also! I totally misheard sulfur lol. It's also really neat to see that you also view the world this way! It's amazing that a movie can leave such a deep mark on you, especially when you're forming your worldview. I think that's why I am so inspired by music. Music and gaming was my life since I was 10 and figured out how to play Sims on the PC lol.

YOU RECOGNIZED THE SONG! Easily the coolest part of your reaction for me is that you not only recognised "Passive", but that you've seen APC live, and during a thunderstorm. *bows deeply* I can't wait for more Keanu Cinematic Universe, and for CP2077 to starting being re-uploaded on your gaming channel!! Peter Stormare is THE Lucifer I think of when I picture the character. He was fking magnificent in the role! "So do I take the rest of my clothes off or can I leave them on?" '...' "John?" '... I'm thinking.' Keanu is a charisma main 😜 Couple things: 1. "Softener?" which you said after the demons are killed by Constantine and Angela starts retching. He said "It's the sulphur." The smell of sulphur left over from the death of the demons was making her ill. It smells like rotten eggs. 2. The water bottles with the crosses on them (which should have been a hint hehe) were HOLY WATER! He set them up as a kind of barrier around the outer wall of his apartment. "I'd choose to be in denial." So you're saying... you'd choose the blue pill 😄 (And I also view the world similar to you, which I noticed in BSG, and so I absolutely KNEW you would resonate with this movie...because right after seeing it in theatres during my final High School year's spring break is when I started shaping my worldview. The film had that much influence on me!)
