📌 A Quick Thought on Watch Format

I want to check in with you all about something that I've been putting a lot of thought and time into lately: our video format!

Currently, we've been doing the watch-along style where you sync your own copy with mine. It's worked really well overall, but I know it can be a bit tricky at times. Especially with shows like Battlestar Galactica that aren't exactly easy to find right now, or those holiday movies that mysteriously vanish from your go-to streaming service the moment December hits. Also there seems to be more and more versions and variations of different movies and shows floating around out there!

YouTube has also become increasingly finicky lately. Even with all the blurring, somehow it still finds out what I'm watching and flags it. That means it can take longer for me to get uploads ready and if a video gets hit with copyright weeks later, it can even start to show ads for you guys even though my channel isn't monetized here!

I've seen what other creators are doing with their communities. A lot of them have switched to fully edited reactions. This lets you watch right alongside me: No syncing, just hit play and enjoy. You can take a peek at this new format in my latest Battlestar Galactica upload here.

I'll still be editing these under fair use which keeps the main focus on my commentary, reaction, and analysis, while respecting the studios behind the work as I always have. I know how important it is that we honor the art we're watching.

This has come up in many of the exit surveys lately where people have joined expecting full edited reactions like other channels but were disappointed in the watch along style. After finally gathering insight from other (albeit much larger lol) creators, I wanted to finally test it here and see what YOU think!

Would you prefer the new edited format, or do you enjoy the current setup?

Your thoughts and feedback mean so much to me. Thank you for always being such a thoughtful and supportive community! Either way, I hope you're still happy in your cozy spot here as we move through these epic journeys together ✨

I know my faves use this method and it is very convenient and easy. I only personally watch it if I have access to the film on my own though, but that’s just me lol Also, I’d still provide the synced version for those who need it in a different language

Yo Kali. Thank you for giving this style a shot. I checked out what you did on your latest Battlestar Galactica post and yep, I myself prefer exactly how you did it on the latest BG posting. Of course, that is just my own personal taste. It simplifies things for me because I've been wanting to watch some of your reactions to some of my favorite movies, but going through my collection or through my subscriptions (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) and not finding my own copy of said movie or show, then I can't watch it. But I'm good either way, but this new format alleviates those particular situations for me. So I love it! :-p But again, that's just me. Some prefer the watch along, but to each their own.

I would be most concerned about volume levels and screen size. I had to stop watching a couple of my favorite reactors because when I turned up the volume enough to hear the movie dialogue, the reactors comments blew my eardrums out, and sometimes just the opposite, very hard to watch. They also had a very small screen size for the video. I watch at home on a PC hooked to a 65-inch screen, and the movie picture was so small I couldn't see the movie from my seat. I don't mind syncing, I usually just use two different browser windows, throw your video into full screen, put my copy of the movie on PIP and place it over your blurred copy and stretch it out as much as I can to make my copy bigger. It would be nice though to have the option when I don't have a copy of my own or a different version, etc. If having both available is not too much work, that would be my vote.

I prefer syncing my own copy: One has to fiddle with the separate videos—and many different versions of movies being out there can be a problem, particularly with modern streaming when sometimes scenes are being deleted by the platform because they've become politically incorrect—but I would rather have those issues because I can fiddle with them at my end to make it satisfactory, whereas if the reactor screens the movie then you only get what you're given Also I think sooner or later there is going to be a copyright clampdown on Patreon

I like the new format. It is easier than having to search and sync up.
