DEV Blog

Hey catz, it's been a while since I've posted any news here, so I thought I'd share some while I'm still in the process of completing the update.

It started when I ran into some difficulties in the development process. Specifically, due to the heaviness and scope of Tasty Curse, the game is getting bigger and more content-filled, so the official program I was working in started to lag mercilessly.

This started to slow me down a lot, so I made the single most important decision - change the architecture of the project for development. Many popular authors using Twine have done it a long time ago, so it's time for me to do it too.

So, my development environment used to look like this before:

But now it looks like this:

Now I am more comfortable navigating among the game files, I got version control, I am more comfortable writing code and now the compiler warns me about errors in the code. And also the lags are completely gone! Yay!

It took me some time to figure it all out and I did it in parallel with development, but it's been working fine for 2 weeks now.

What this means for you is that there will be fewer bugs in the updates, and I'll be able to maintain (or increase) my development speed with the increase in Tasty Curse content. Roughly speaking, things have gotten a little more stable.

Now I'll say a word or two about the next update. Right now I'm working on all the items from the plan I described in the post about the current game update. In addition, I have compressed the game video files and changed their format, which helped to reduce the size of the game. It is now no bigger than 2GB. (I also have ideas on how to make it so you don't have to download the whole game again and again, but we'll leave it like this for now)

In terms of timing, I will now say that the next update will be out before the end of February. (But I think I can finish it a little earlier)

I guess that's all I have to say for today. If there is anything else you are interested in something, don't hesitate to ask.

I wish you all the best and stay well!
