Very excited to announce that my first EP under the moniker “Christopher John” has been released! You can listen on most streaming platforms:
“Songs of the Past” is a collection of songs that have been collecting digital dust on my hard drive since 2015. They are songs I wrote years ago, but songs that also have qualities of reflection and remembrance.
Though they have been finally realized as piano pieces, they were originally conceived and written away from the piano, by pointing and clicking notes into the computer. I’m primarily a pianist, so this process allowed me to keep my focus purely on developing solid forms and melodies, and not getting distracted by the physical relationships and embellishments that come with playing an instrument.
I also consider these recordings to be purely electronic music. This is a reflection of how they were composed at the computer, but also how they were produced and complemented with sound design. What you’re hearing I call “cyborg pianos” - instruments that are physically impossible, but despite this electronic illusion, we still call it piano music. I love this playful relationship with listeners and I hope to explore that more in future releases.
$10+ Patrons will find the album in the Google Drive.
I’ll be posting sheet music for $2+ Patrons in the coming weeks.
Hope you enjoy, thanks so much for listening!
