Talking Simpsons - Bart-Mangled Banner With Brendan James

"Son, I've learned one thing in this life. To stay out of trouble, just say nothing. Don't rock the boat. Don't even get IN the boat! Just buy some ice cream and walk around the pier. But don't go in the bathrooms; they're filthy." - Homer Simpson

When Bart unwittingly moons the American flag, the town of Springfield ends up in hot water, and The Simpsons eventually find themselves imprisoned in a reeducation camp. As this political satire unfolds, we must ask ourselves if it's possible to be critical of the current administration while refusing to mention the President—or any other politician—by name.

I've come across an anti-vaccination meme of Dr. Hibbert holding two syringes from this episode ("Safe and effective is not a lie... it's two lies"), but just the one. I feel like there's more potential there.

I share an interest in the licensed music stuff as it pertains to modern re-releases. I would love to be able to find out who was responsible for the music in the short-lived cartoon The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. Like Super Show, there were cover and parody songs used in some episodes (and even actual Milli Vanilli tracks in that one episode they appeared in) that had to be removed when it was released on DVD. However, there is an episode called "Recycled Koopa" with a trash dumping plot and a song called "Trash City USA" plays during a montage. There's a fairly obscure song by The Misfits/Glenn Danzig called "Spook City USA" that is very similar and I've always wanted to know if A) it was related and indeed a parody, and B) did the obscurity of the track just allow it to sneak by for home video? When the episode aired, the song was only found as a B-side on a vinyl single (with fewer than 1,000 pressings) for the Glenn Danzig solo effort Who Killed Marilyn? In the mid 90s, it was included on CD in a Misfits box set, but that's pretty much it for releases until very recently when the vinyl was reissued. That's probably something that interests only me, but it's a mystery I'd love to investigate some day.

I’ve been enjoying Blowback, but I can only do an episode or 2 at a time, then I need to break it up with Talking Simpsons or Blank Check to make me remember to laugh. $2000/mo for a 1br apartment in Oakland, CA sounds cheap compared to the 1br apartment here in Orlando, FL that is going for $1975 about a block away from me.

Your conversation about licensed music in home releases reminds me how disappointed I was when the Super Mario Bros Super Show got a DVD release. By way of being produced by Cyndi Lauper the show had licensed music in EVERY episode, mostly covers, but still licensed songs. ALL of them were gone on the DVD, replaced by a generic track. Mario could be Kung Fu Fighting, throwing records at hip hop koopa troopas, or battling Robo Koopa, and the SAME. GENERIC. TRACK would play. Thankfully, I stumbled upon a youtube channel that had the original airings preserved a few years back.
