The Power Macintosh G5

The long-awaited video is finally released. Members can watch it here, ad-free. It is being released on YouTube today as well, if you prefer to watch videos there.

When I was testing the ad placement on YouTube, an ad for Alibaba came on, using cheese graters as an example of how good their prices are! What?! ... I can't avoid that G5 nickname!

Now the intro:

The Power Macintosh G5 was was released in 2003 into a sea of technological challenges and change. What looked like the next great chapter for PowerPC ended up bringing it to an end. I talk about how it all went down and interesting details about the machine along the way. From the 1.6GHz low-end machine to the top-end "G5 Quad". The all metal accessible case, the water-cooled CPU, 64-bit, OS X, new monitors and a karaoke machine companion product.

Thanks for all your support to get this made. I hope everyone enjoys the video.

And the tour guide for the oil museum? I lost track of her, but from what I gather, she's been practising Law internationally for many years now.

That's very cool that you have one of those MDD machines, Ben!

11:20 - I actually have one of the (probably few) re-released MDD PMG4 2x1.25 GHz models. I had a lot of doubts about whether it was the final 2003 version, or the first-gen MDD, but my machine lacks FW800, the graphics card is a giveaway, and the build date that SN decoder sites report back make my machine look like it's one of those rarities. It's a very peppy machine, even with 10.5 installed and even compared next to my M3 MBP, BUT... it's loud as hell so I rarely leave it run. And it's even louder under MacOS 9. Found this unit at shopgoodwill, where I also found my 2x1.0 GHz QS... but more on that machine later! :) 15:18 - Karaoke machine? LOL LOL LOL! 1:02 - Where is she now?

I'm sure there is a collector's market for Canadian Tire money, too. Now that the video is out, I can watch some other content. First in line is yours, which I'm extremely late to the party on. Thanks for the friendly support over the past few months. Glad you liked the end result!

Certainly worth the wait! So many great little jokes and details! How long do you think it will be before CanadianTire money is worth more than face value? :) Lovely dedication at the end. Sending a virtual hug to you, Mr. Scribe. Hope you're doing alright.

Bruce is near and dear to my heart ❤️. Let’s just say he’s a coworker.

Thank you for the feedback, Bill! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that you appreciated the 2037 Mac Pro appearance.

Ha! I'm glad you commented on that. I've done that joke before with seemingly no reaction. So, in the next video I laid down a 1937 $100 bill, and said, "Canadian money looks weird, eh?". No response to that joke either.

[ bows down to your Final Cut Pro yak avatar ] :>

P.S. I chuckled when I saw you paying for a vintage Mac with vintage Canadian bills. I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid!

This video is 🔥. Well done! Thoroughly researched, hilariously presented. Laugh out loud moments throughout. The 2037 Mac Pro's cameo (presented without comment) really got me. And talk about a nostalgia trip back to the early 00s! Love it. Thank you!

Fantastic, another classic!

Oh boy oh boy! It is finally here!
