Development update #20

Well that was fun. The release stuff has mostly died down now, and I'm no longer releasing further versions of 0.22. There are still a couple of bugs, but none major enough to further delay 0.23.

So with that out of the way, 0.23 development is underway. As stated in some earlier dev update, #17 I think, the release format will be changing from now on. I know it may be a bit confusing with all the 0.22.05 stuff, but for anyone new who hasn't read that post, the new format is as follows.

W.X.Y.Z   (Currently it's just W.X)

W = Major version. This is basically gonna be 0 until version 1.0.
X = Release version. This is basically what it sounds like, it'll usually be a single in game day, and is what the 22 in 0.22 or 21 in 0.21 are generally.
Y = Update number. This is identifies which update in that version this is. So 0.23 could be a single day made up of 3 updates, so you'd get 0.23.1, 0.23.2 and 0.23.3 and together they form that whole release.
Z = Patch number. This will usually be omitted. It's reserved just for if I need to do a bugfix or something.

With that in mind, I'm currently working on 0.23.1. I don't know exactly how long it's gonna take but the aim is for much more frequent but smaller releases. I will say that 0.22 was a fairly exceptional update in the sense that it featured a lot more events culminating together than most updates will, so even if I wasn't doing the "release in parts" thing, the next update would still probably be quicker than that one was.

This leads into the next thing. I'm away for the first half of November, and I'm not going to have access to my PC during that time. I plan to maybe try some writing during downtime, but in the grand scheme of things, not much development will happen in that time. I'm mentioning it now because I don't really like to keep secrets when it comes to whether or not things are being worked on. If this is an issue for you then do feel free to unsub but if not, thank you for your support. I'm sort of hoping I'm able to get something out before then but given it's just 25 days from now (Of which I can usually spend 3-6 hours properly on the game max) it's not hugely likely. Instead my aim is an end of November release for 0.23.1. No guarantees but that's the goal I've set myself.


With that out of the way, thank you everyone for the kinda nuts response to 0.22. I'd worried that the extra time spent on animations and all that stuff wouldn't be appreciated, but I've only really heard good things with regard to the aspects of the update that took the most time. 0.22 sex scenes are the new standard that I'm planning for the rest of the scenes. I can't promise they'll all be quite as long as some of them, but I think 0.22 is a good general indication of what I want the game to be like going forward, at least in terms of attention to detail and the sex scenes and stuff. I'd be rambling if I were to try to say more, so instead I'll leave it here, and update you in another 2 weeks with hopefully some more info on what 0.23.1 will actually be.

For those who share your opinion, I'll be labeling major versions in some way so you can just skip these little versions and wait for the big ones. From now on the changelogs will be quite specific with regard to which characters and routes are featured so people can decide whether or not an update is worth playing. I personally prefer making larger but less frequent updates, but the reality of the AVN world dictates that you can only really get away with doing that once you're already at the point where pretty much everyone knows your game. The content itself won't change, just the frequency I release bits of it.

I think release the game with big content is better for me (no need for Y version). But it your game anyway ^^
